How to Set Up FedEx International Connect (FIC)

FedEx International Connect (FIC) is a cost-effective, day-definite shipping service for e-commerce businesses. It's designed for lightweight, low-value international shipments, balancing speed and affordability. Integrating your FedEx account with ShipHero allows you to automate and manage FIC shipments directly from your warehouse, streamlining your global fulfillment and simplifying customs documentation.

Speak with your FedEX rep or visit FedEx's site for more information about FedEx International Connect.

How to Set Up FedEx International Connect (FIC)

FedEx FIC rates work similarly to UPS Mail Innovations; instead of receiving a quote from the carrier’s API, rates are uploaded to the ShipHero database and used when generating labels when using these shipping methods.

NOTE: Unlike traditional carrier connections, FIC rates are not connected via the Shipping Carriers page. Assistance from the ShipHero support team is required to have the connection set up. Please follow the steps below.

Here is a step-by-step guide to connecting FedEx International Connect to your ShipHero account:

  1. Request the rate file with the Zones from FedEx and save it as a CSV file.

Below is an example of what the FedEx quote file will look like.

Example of FedEx rate file CSV format

  2. Share the FedEx API key with a member of the ShipHero team through a secure method like 1Password. The key is needed so that ShipHero can complete the setup.
  3. Contact ShipHero Support with the requested files so they can upload the rates for you.

Important Notes About your FIC Rate CSV File

  • This is not a patch operation; existing rates will be removed if not included in the upload file.
  • The file must be in a CSV format.
  • The file should not contain repeated lines or invalid characters.

Commercial Invoice Options

By default the following information is used for commercial invoices when shipping with FedEx:

  • Shipping costs are not included in customs value
  • No separate freight charge appears on the commercial invoice
  • The subtotal equals the total customs value
  • The quoted label cost will show on the printed label

You now have the option to include the shipping costs on the order with the customs information. To do this please reach out to ShipHero's support team to the setting enabled for your account. With this setting enabled:

  • The order's shipping price is added to the total customs value
  • The shipping price is listed as a separate freight charge on the commercial invoice
  • The subtotal is set to the order subtotal (excluding shipping)
  • The label cost shown on the printed label is set to match the order subtotal instead of the FedEx-quoted cost
