Shipping freight in ShipHero follows a process similar to standard parcel orders, but requires specific workflows to manage larger volumes and palletized inventory. Following these best practices ensures accurate inventory tracking and detailed order records.
1. Identify Freight Orders via Custom Status
Use Automation Rules to automatically move freight orders into a Custom Status (e.g., "Freight" or "LTL"). Rules can be triggered by specific criteria, such as:
- A high quantity of SKUs within a single order.
- Specific order number prefixes or types.
- Weight thresholds.
2. Mobile Picking Workflow
Once orders are assigned a freight status, warehouse pickers should filter their Mobile iOS Device to that specific status. This informs the picker that the order requires specialized equipment, such as a larger tote or a physical pallet, before they begin.
3. Packing and Box Selection
Packers process freight orders using the standard ShipHero workflow with the following adjustments:
- Scan the picking tote and individual items.
- Select Pallet as the box size. Note: You can create "Pallet" as a custom box size in your settings and automate its selection via rules.
- Print the packing slip if required for the shipment.
If shipping multiple pallets, you can add additional packages during the packing process. Since the Bill of Lading (BOL) is generated outside of ShipHero, the system's primary role is to record the fulfillment and clear the inventory.
4. Using Generic Labels as Pallet Tags
Set the Shipping Method for freight orders to Generic Label. The Generic Label will contain the Ship from address, Ship to address & Order Number (with a barcode).
