Totes are containers used to organize and track items during the order fulfillment process. In ShipHero, totes are specifically used during Multi-Item Batch and Single Item Batch order processing flows. When a picker generates a batch, items are collected and placed into totes which are tracked using unique barcodes.

Quick Facts About Totes in ShipHero
- Totes can only be created from the Totes page. Names are auto-generated by ShipHero upon creation.
- Editing tote names in bulk is not currently available via the user interface. Contact ShipHero Support with a CSV containing the current and new tote names for assistance.
- Totes are warehouse-specific. In multi-warehouse setups, you must create distinct totes for each location. Totes cannot be shared across different warehouses.
- Totes are only assigned during batch picking. They are not supported for Single Order or Bulk Ship processing flows.
- When a pick is confirmed in the mobile app, inventory is automatically deducted from the bin location and transferred to the tote.
More information about how inventory is deducted from the bin during picks can be found here.
Tote Best Practices
Follow these guidelines to improve efficiency for pickers locating totes on a cart:
- Maintain backup or spare totes to replace those on picking carts if issues arise during fulfillment.
- Use color-coded totes to distinguish between different shelves on a picking cart.
- Rename totes to reflect their specific use or physical attributes (e.g., "Large Tote 1", "Red Tote 2").
