Kits allow you to bundle a group of products so that you can sell them as a set.
For example, say that you want to sell a gift box containing milk chocolate bars and dark chocolate bars. By creating a "Chocolate Gift Box" kit, you can specify all of the different chocolate bars that will go into the set. This kit would consist of a parent SKU (Chocolate Gift Box) and the individual component SKUs (milk chocolate bars and dark chocolate bars).
There are several advantages of having both kits and components:
- Existing SKUs can be used as components.
- Components included in a kit can still be sold as individual items.
- ShipHero calculates kit availability based on the inventory of each component.
Note: When creating or modifying Kits, you must ensure you don't have any orders pending shipment that have those Kit products included. Notice you can filter orders by SKU on the main page. Modifying those products by adding/removing components and making/unmaking a Kit would interfere with how the quantities are calculated for products involved and show wrong inventory quantities.
NOTE: It is best practice not to include nested kits - or kits within kits (for example: combining a 6-pack kit of milk chocolate bars and a 12-pack kit of dark chocolate bars into your 'Chocolate Box build Kit)
Kit Types
Two types of kits can be created, a Build Kit or a Regular Kit.
Build Kit
A Build Kit breaks up the components on each order so that you can pick each SKU individually. This feature is used for the following scenarios:
- If using the partial shipment feature to send a Kit (for example, to send the gift box with only some of the chocolate bars now and then ship the remaining chocolate bars later).
- If the Kit contains additional kits as components (for example, combining a 6-pack Kit of milk chocolate bars and a 12-pack Kit of dark chocolate bars into the Chocolate Box Kit).
- If the Kit is not pre-assembled, you must send your Pickers to separate locations in the warehouse (for example, the milk chocolate bars are in one location, and the dark chocolate bars are in another).
Regular Kit
A Regular Kit must have all components in stock and packed at the same time. You cannot short-ship or have missing components for Regular Kit orders. Think of a Regular Kit like an IKEA sofa. That sofa is stored in the warehouse in pieces, each with an individual SKU. You would have cushions, legs, and various other components all stored in different warehouse areas. Because nobody wants half of a sofa, all of these SKUs must be in stock and brought together before packing the finished sofa.
Creating a Kit
Create a Kit via CSV
- Create a parent Kit SKU by going to Inventory > Products > Add a Product.
- Using the top menu at app.shiphero.com, click My Account and then CSV Management.
- Select Product Kits from the Item to Update list.
- Download the Product Kits Template.
- Fill out the Product Kits Template. Enter 1 under Build Kit if you want this option instead of a Regular Kit.
- Upload the CSV file once it is completed.
- Assuming the CSV file was valid and successfully uploaded, the Kits should show up on the inventory page and be available for use.
Create a Kit via Product Details Page
- Create a parent Kit SKU by going to Inventory > Products > Add a Product.
- Select the Parent Kit SKU under Inventory > Products.
- Scroll down to the Components section on the Product Detail Page.
- Add the Components to the Parent Kit.
- In the Product Details section on the left side of the page, select Yes or No to specify whether you want the Kit to be a Build Kit.
- If the component has a quantity other than 1, click Edit and update the Kit Quantity field.
Note: If you have multi-warehouse in your account, the kit must have the same components, and quantities, in every warehouses.
Troubleshooting
You may encounter the error message "Please delete all bins this product is in before making it into a kit."
This message appears because a kit can't have a particular bin associated with it. The solution is to either create a new SKU for that kit and add the components or remove the bin for the SKU that you wanted to add.
