When transferring inventory between locations using the ShipHero mobile app, you may encounter an error message regarding maximum allowed quantities. This safeguard prevents inventory discrepancies that occur when items are moved while simultaneously being picked for orders.
Understanding the Inventory Safeguard
In a high-volume warehouse, items are often picked into a Tote before they are officially shipped. If you move the total recorded quantity of a SKU to a new Location while one of those units is already in a tote, the system will eventually try to deduct the shipped unit from the original (now empty) bin. This creates a negative inventory balance and data errors.
If the transfer picked inventory to tote setting is not enabled for your account, the mobile app calculates the transferable quantity by subtracting units currently in totes from the total quantity recorded in the bin.
Here is more information on how Inventory is Removed From Bin When Picked into a Tote
Example Scenario
To illustrate how this calculation works, consider the following inventory state:
| Entity | Quantity/Detail |
| SKU | ABC123 |
| Total Quantity in Bin A-1-1 | 10 |
| Quantity in Totes (Picked) | 1 |
| Maximum Transferable Amount | 9 |
Resolving the Error
If you attempt to move all 10 units in the scenario above, the mobile app will display the following message:
"Error moving 10 units from location A-1-1. The maximum allowed to move is 9 due to batches currently in progress."
To resolve this, follow these steps:
- Adjust the transfer quantity to match the maximum allowed number shown in the error.
- Complete the transfer to the new location.
- The remaining unit(s) will stay assigned to the original location until the tote is packed and shipped.
