To ensure that packages are sent to the right address the first time (and greatly decrease the need for reships and returns), ShipHero will validate the shipping address of every order that comes in. This is a default setting. If the address is deemed to be invalid, ShipHero will Put the Order on Hold.
Addresses are validated using the USPS Address validator. This article will walk through the basics on how addresses are validated and what to do if an invalid address has been identified.

How Order Address Hold Works
When validate shipping address is enabled, ShipHero will use the USPS Address validator to determine that the mailing address is valid and that if shipped, the package will be delivered.
There are 3 things that will happen after the address validator runs.
- If the address is valid, the order will proceed as normal through ShipHero.
- If the address is invalid AND an alternate address is found, then the address is updated with the suggested correct address provided by the USPS Address database.
- If the address is invalid and an alternate address is NOT found, the order is automatically put on Address Hold.
NOTE: All address changes are logged. Every change made to an order, including address changes, are available for view in the Order History log available in the order details view.
NOTE: Address validation happens on the backend during order import. Nothing will show on screen.
How to Clear an Invalid Address Hold
- You can remove the hold manually by checking the Ignore Address Validation Errors box. Even though this box is checked, some carriers will still not accept an invalid address.
- You can Ignore Address Validation Errors using a specific automation rule.
- The rule is triggered by a list or a consistent factor when the order is imported into ShipHero.
- This rule can be very helpful when a generic label is used for the shipping method (store pickup, pallet labels, etc.)
NOTE: ShipHero validates addresses for Canada, U.S. and Australia. Orders with a generic shipping method do not qualify for address validation.
