In addition to charging based on the carrier, 3PLs have the option to bill their clients based on the shipping zone and/or the weight of a package.
Zone-based billing relies on standard USPS zone categories, which are determined by the distance a package has to travel from its point of origin. Users have the ability assign a billing profile to specific USPS zones. With weight-based billing, users may assign a billing profile to a specific weight range.
Managing Billing Profiles
To manage zone-based or weight-based billing, navigate to 3PL > Billing Profiles, select a billing profile, and then next to the Fees heading click Manage.
Next, select the Shipments tab. Add a fee, choosing the By Shipping Label dropdown option. On the left side of the page, make sure that the If a shipment requires this... checkbox is selected.
Zone Based Billing
To apply a zone-based billing charge, scroll down past the ShipHero Carriers menu to find the Shipping zone options. Select the checkbox for each zone that you want to qualify for this billing profile. Click the Save button in the upper right corner of the page once you have made your selection.
Weight Based Billing
To apply a weight-based shipping charge, scroll down to find the Package weight range option. Select the checkbox and fill in a minimum and a maximum weight. Select the Save button in the upper right corner of the page when you are finished.
Note: Ensure that you enter a minimum weight in the left field and a maximum weight in the right field. If you do not specify a minimum and maximum weight in the correct order, you will see the error message shown below when you attempt to save your changes.
