How to Use Wildcard Matching

The Wildcard Matching setting on the Shipping > Methods page allows you to map multiple store shipping methods at once when they share a common naming convention. Instead of creating a separate mapping rule for each variation, a single wildcard rule handles them all automatically.

Wildcard Matching is disabled by default. Enable it on a per-method basis when creating or editing a shipping method mapping on the Shipping Methods page.

How Wildcard Matching Works

When Use Wildcard Matching is enabled for a rule, ShipHero will match any shipping method name that begins with the text entered in the rule — regardless of what follows it.

The effectiveness of wildcard matching relies on consistent naming conventions for shipping methods from your e-commerce platform. Inconsistent naming can lead to unmapped orders.

Wildcard Matching Example

If your e-commerce platform uses shipping methods like:

  • Free Shipping - New York
  • Free Shipping - New Jersey
  • Free Shipping - California

You would create one rule for "Free Shipping -" and select the Use wildcard matching checkbox to avoid mapping each state's method individually.
