The Automation Rules page shows rules for every client account a 3PL manages on a single list. Filter by client, search by rule name or by what a rule does, and select several rules to activate, deactivate, delete, or copy in one action.
Before You Begin
You must be signed in to a 3PL account. The client filter appears only when you have access to more than one client account. Every rule is owned by a single client, even when you create or edit it from the 3PL account.
For an orientation to the 3PL Automation Rules experience, see Overview: Managing Automation Rules as a 3PL in ShipHero. For creating and editing the lists that rule conditions check against, including creating a list for several clients at once, see How to Create and Manage Automation Rule Lists in ShipHero.

The 3PL Automation Rules Page Layout
Go to Orders > Automation Rules from your 3PL account.
| Page element | What it does |
|---|---|
| Client Name column | Shows which client account owns each rule. |
| Client filter | Limits the rule list and the Lists panel to one client. Appears when more than one client is available. |
| Search | Finds rules by rule name, trigger, or action. |
| Row checkboxes and Select All | Selects individual rules or every rule currently shown. |
| Bulk Manage panel | Appears in the right sidebar when at least one rule is selected. Holds the activate, deactivate, delete, and duplicate actions. |
| Lists panel | Appears in the right sidebar. Creates, views, and deletes the lists used as rule conditions. Each list is owned by a single client, and the client filter filters this panel too. |
How to Filter and Search Automation Rules by 3PL Client
Use the client filter when you want to work inside one client account, and use search when you are looking for a rule by what it does.
- Go to Orders > Automation Rules.
- Select a client in the client filter to show only that client's rules and lists.
- Enter a rule name, trigger, or action in the search field to narrow the list further.
- Clear the filter or the search to return to the full list.
When no rules or lists match your current filter and search, ShipHero shows an empty state instead of an empty table, so you can tell the difference between no results and no rules.
How to Bulk Manage Automation Rules for 3PL Clients
Selecting one or more rules opens the Bulk Manage panel in the right sidebar. You can select rules that belong to different clients in the same action.
- Go to Orders > Automation Rules.
- Filter or search to narrow the list.
- Select the checkbox next to each rule, or use Select All to select every rule currently shown.
- In the Bulk Manage panel, choose your action.
- Confirm the action when prompted.
| Bulk action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Activate | Activates every selected rule. Active rules run on new orders for their client. |
| Deactivate | Deactivates every selected rule without deleting its configuration. |
| Delete | Deletes every selected rule after you confirm. |
| Duplicate | Copies the selected rules into the destination client or clients you choose. See How to Duplicate Automation Rules in ShipHero. |
ShipHero processes a bulk action as one operation. If one selected rule is invalid or cannot be processed, the action stops and the remaining selected rules are left unchanged.
Important
Deleting a rule breaks the link in the order history notes of any order it previously ran on. Deactivate a rule and leave it in place for a while before deleting it, so you can still trace its past behavior.
When Automation Rule Reordering Is Unavailable
Automation Rules run from the top of the list down, and a rule lower in the list can override one above it. Drag-and-drop reordering is available only when the page shows a single, unambiguous rule order.
| Page state | Reordering |
|---|---|
| One client selected, no active search | Available. |
| A search is active | Unavailable, because the visible list is not the full rule order. |
| Rules from several clients are shown together | Unavailable, because each client has its own rule order. |
To reorder a client's rules, filter to that one client and clear the search field.
