Known Limitations & Requirements
To avoid label generation errors, please ensure your shipments adhere to the following rules based on the Australia Post API requirements.
Address & Contact Constraints
- Character Limits: Name, Business Name, and Address lines must not exceed 40 characters.
- Phone Numbers: Must be valid. StarTrack requires exactly 10 characters; Australia Post supports 10+.
- Suburb: Must contain only English characters and must match the valid State/Postcode combination in the Australia Post database.
Package Dimension Rules
ShipHero automatically converts units (inches to cm, ounces to kg) and rounds dimensions to one decimal place.
| Metric | Requirement |
| Minimum Weight | 0.1 kg |
| Minimum Dimensions | 0.1 cm |
| Small Package Rule | Only ONE dimension is allowed to be below 5 cm. If multiple dimensions are below 5 cm, ShipHero will automatically adjust the others to 5 cm. |
International (CN22) Requirements
For international shipments using the simplified CN22 customs form, the following limits apply:
- Value: Total item price must be under $500 AUD.
- Weight: Total weight must be ≤ 2 kg.
- Dimensions: The sum of all dimensions (L+W+H) cannot exceed 90 cm, and no single dimension can exceed 60 cm.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Timeouts: Australia Post's API can take up to 55 seconds to generate a label. ShipHero allows for a 60-second timeout. If you experience frequent timeouts, check your internet connection or the Australia Post API status page.
- Unit Rounding: Ensure your product dimensions are accurate. Australia Post is strict about decimal places (maximum one decimal place allowed for dimensions).
- Label printing: If your label images are being cut off on the printer check your printers settings; or Australia Post labels use the standard A6 printer settings, 105 mm width x 148 mm height.
