Introduction
This "How-To" guide will walk you through using the ShipHero Packer Performance Dashboard to understand, analyze, and improve the efficiency of your warehouse packing operations.
Prerequisites
- Your account should be a 3PL or Brand.
- Your warehouse team must be using the ShipHero packing process.
- Your account should have WorkforceHero enabled.
- In order to start seeing valuable benchmarks and data in the dashboard it is important to enable the data collection process for your account and collect data for at least 2 weeks. Please reach out to support to enable the data collection.
Steps
1. Accessing the Packer Performance Dashboard
- Log in: Log into your ShipHero account at app.shiphero.com.
- Navigate to Reports: In the main menu, find and click on the "Reports" option.
- Find the Packer Dashboard: Look for "Packer Performance" and click to open the Packer Performance Dashboard.
2. Understanding the Dashboard Layout
The dashboard presents a table with key metrics about your packers. Here's a breakdown:
- Packer: The name of the packer.
- Position: The packer's job title in your warehouse.
- Shipments: The total number of shipments packed within the selected time frame.
- Units: The total number of individual items packed within the selected time frame.
- Clocked time: The total amount of time they were clocked into packing through WorkforceHero. This metric is most accurate if using the assignment of tasks via kiosk. If not it will rely on autodetection of tasks.
- Recorded time: The total amount of time ShipHero tracked packing orders.
- Productivity: A percentage showing the recorded time compared to clock time. This metric is most accurate if using the assignment of tasks via kiosk. If not it will rely on autodetection of tasks.
-
Score: An objective score that averages how long packers took compared to other packers of similar and identical orders.
- A score of 0 means the job took twice or more of the expected time.
- A score below 5 means the packer was slower than expected.
- A score of 5 means that the order was packed exactly within the expected time.
- A score above 5 means the packer was faster than expected.
- A score of 10 means the order was packed in half of the expected time or less.
3. Filtering and Customizing the Data
To focus on specific information, use the filtering options at the top of the dashboard:
- Packers < 30min: To hide or show packers with less than 30 minutes packing time, to avoid skewed results.
- Position: To filter by job position (e.g., Associate, Manager).
- Team Members: Filter by assigned team (if applicable).
- Shift: Filter by shift in your warehouse.
- Date: To filter by the period, select "Today" or select "Date Range".
- Click on "Apply" to confirm your filters.
4. Diving Deeper into Individual Packer Performance
- Click on a Packer: To see an individual packer's detailed performance data, click on their name in the table.
-
Review Score Summary: A sidebar will appear displaying more specific data. The report shows:
- A Bar stating the performance score
- Shipments: The total number of shipments packed within the selected time frame.
- Units: The total number of individual items packed within the selected time frame.
- Productivity: A percentage showing the recorded time compared to clock time.
- Averages: Better, average, worse, or not available shipment data.
- A Bar stating the performance score
5. Inspecting Order-Level Detail
- Select a Packer: Click on a packer's name to see details.
- Click on View Orders: In the side panel, click the "View Orders" at the upper right corner.
- Analyze Orders: The list provides details for each order, including the number of units, the packing date, the productivity score per order and the expected time it should take to pack each order. This view is invaluable for understanding context.
6. Interpreting the Data and Taking Action
Now, armed with data, consider the following actions:
- Identify packers with the most improvement opportunity: Analyze the data for packers consistently exceeding the expected time.
-
Uncover Opportunities for Improvement: For under-performing packers, ask the following questions:
- What specific types of orders are causing delays? Are they large, bulky, fragile, or high in piece count?
- Is the packer clocking in for the correct amount of time, or is there a large discrepancy between clocked time and recorded time?
-
Take Action:
- Provide Targeted Training: Address order-specific weaknesses through focused training.
- Adjust Team Assignments: As you understand your team’s strengths, shift packing types accordingly.
- Optimize the packing station: Review workflows and processes.
-
You can also gain insights from Top Performers.
- Are they best with some specific order types ? Are there ergonomic practices they take that could be replicated to other packers?
Tips for Effective Use
- Monitor Regularly: Check the dashboard daily or weekly to stay on top of performance trends.
- Consult with Packers: Share the data and solicit feedback from your packing team.
- Set Realistic Goals: Based on the data, set achievable performance targets and track progress.
