How to Use Generic Labels in ShipHero

While most shipments utilize integrated carriers, ShipHero offers Generic Labels for alternative transportation and delivery methods. Using a Generic Label allows you to finalize an order without generating a carrier charge or communicating with external shipping APIs.

Common Use Cases for Generic Labels

Generic labels provide a flexible solution for workflows that do not require a traditional tracking number or carrier service.

Scenario Description
Local Pickup When customers collect orders directly. The label identifies the shipment for the customer while moving the order to a "Fulfilled" status.
Local Delivery When the warehouse team or a local courier delivers the product. This closes the order in ShipHero after the packing process is complete.
External Shipping Apps When using a third-party service or specialized app to ship products after they have been packed within the ShipHero environment.

Key Benefits of Generic Labels

  • Cost Efficiency: Because these labels do not interface with carriers, they incur no additional shipping fees or carrier-related costs.
  • Workflow Flexibility: They allow the packing team to follow standard procedures (Pick/Pack) and "ship" the order in the system to maintain accurate inventory and order history.
  • Order Accountability: Even without a carrier, the label provides a physical reference for the shipment, ensuring the correct items are handed to the customer or local driver.

Generic labels are created without carrier tracking. You can add a Carrier, Method, and Tracking Number to a generic label after it's generated.
