In addition to carrier-based billing, 3PLs can charge clients based on the shipping zone, package weight, or both.
Zone-based billing uses standard USPS zone categories, determined by the distance a package travels from its origin. You can assign a billing profile to specific USPS zones. With weight-based billing, you can assign a billing profile to a specific weight range.
Managing Billing Profiles
To manage zone-based or weight-based billing, navigate to 3PL > Billing Profiles, select a billing profile, then click Manage next to the Fees heading.
Next, select the Shipments tab. Add a fee and choose the By Shipping Label dropdown option. On the left side of the page, make sure the If a shipment requires this... checkbox is selected.
Zone Based Billing
To apply a zone-based billing charge, scroll down past the ShipHero Carriers menu to find the Shipping zone options. Select the checkbox for each zone you want to qualify for this billing profile, then click Save in the upper right corner.
Weight Based Billing
To apply a weight-based billing charge, scroll down to find the Package weight range option. Select the checkbox, fill in a minimum and maximum weight, then click Save in the upper right corner.
To avoid overlapping fees, each range should start where the previous one ended. For example, if one fee covers 1–5 lbs, the next should cover 5.01–10 lbs, and so on.
The Package weight range:To is not inclusive.
To convert ounces to pounds, divide the total ounces by 16.
Enter the minimum weight in the left field and the maximum weight in the right field. If the fields are filled in out of order, an error message will appear when you try to save.
