An Assembly SKU is a product that is built from component parts and managed through a Work Order. Before creating an Assembly work order, the Assembly SKU must be configured in your product catalog.
Assembly SKU Requirements
- An Assembly SKU is NOT a Kit. Assembly SKUs are used for building a new, trackable inventory item from component parts — which is what a Work Order manages. Kits are virtual bundles for selling, not for manufacturing. Kits cannot have locations or an on-hand quantity; an Assembly SKU can.
- An Assembly SKU must have at least one component.
- You can change the components of an Assembly SKU, but the change will not update on any existing work order. For example: if you create an Assembly SKU with a blue sticker as a component but run out, you can edit the component to a different sticker and create a new work order. The first work order will use the blue sticker; the new one will use the updated component.
