How to Set Up Shared Inventory for a Single Warehouse and Storefront in Shopify POS

Shared Shopify POS inventory lets a storefront and ecommerce operation sell from the same ShipHero warehouse. Configure how ShipHero selects inventory for POS deductions, then keep retail stock organized so ecommerce pickers can work efficiently.

Before You Begin

Connect your Shopify store to ShipHero and create the POS location in Shopify. Make sure the products sold through Shopify POS have matching SKUs in Shopify and ShipHero.

For general Shopify POS inventory deductions, account requirements, Default Inventory Bin behavior, inventory picking, and returns, see Overview: Shopify POS Inventory Setups in ShipHero.

Choose a Shopify POS Inventory Deduction Method in ShipHero

When a Shopify POS transaction is processed, ShipHero removes inventory from the shared warehouse. Without a Default Inventory Bin, ShipHero can reduce inventory from any sellable bin in the warehouse.

Any SKU sold through POS is assigned a single location: no additional setup required Inventory for any SKU sold through POS is split between locations in the same warehouse: configure the Default Inventory Bin
If every SKU in your warehouse lives in exactly one bin, ShipHero will always know where to pull inventory from. While no additional configuration is needed, this approach means every location will need to be pickable, which makes replenishment impossible.
  1. Create a location in the warehouse to hold all Shopify POS inventory.
  2. Contact ShipHero Support with the bin name to configure it as the Default Inventory Bin.
  3. Transfer inventory to the Default Inventory Bin when the quantity runs low.

If the Default Inventory Bin is empty for a required SKU, ShipHero falls back to a sellable bin containing that SKU. See Overview: Shopify POS Inventory Setups in ShipHero for the complete inventory deduction behavior.

Configure Shopify POS Inventory for 3PL Client Accounts

3PL client accounts require an additional Shopify store setting and a Default Inventory Bin to deduct POS inventory correctly.

  1. Go to My Account > Stores.
  2. Select Settings for the 3PL child account Shopify store. Turn on Remove stock in ShipHero for fulfillments created in Shopify and not ShipHero.
  3. Create a location in the ShipHero warehouse for storefront inventory.
  4. Contact ShipHero Support with the bin name to configure the Default Inventory Bin for the client.
