Understanding PostHero Metrics and Delivery Statuses

PostHero measures how long orders take to move through your warehouse and the carrier network, and flags shipments that fall behind. Use these definitions to read the PostHero dashboard correctly and decide where to improve.

For how to filter, search, export, and resolve orders on the dashboard, see How to Use the PostHero Dashboard. For supported carriers and account setup, see Overview: PostHero Dashboard.

PostHero Delivery Time Metrics

The PostHero delivery timeline breaks each order's journey into three stages: Ready, Shipped, and Delivered. Each stage shows how many orders reached it. Delivered orders count toward these metrics even though they don't appear in the issues list.

Metric What It Measures
Average fulfillment time The average time it takes an order to move from Ready to ship: Yes through delivery. This is the large number at the top of the timeline.
Ready to Shipped The average warehouse fulfillment time, from when an order becomes Ready to ship: Yes to when its shipping label is created.
Time to delivery The average time from when a shipping label is created in ShipHero to when carrier tracking shows the order as delivered.

The Ready to Shipped metric is not the same as the Ready to ship order attribute. The attribute tells you whether an order can be fulfilled. The metric measures how long orders take to ship once they reach that point.

How PostHero Counts Business Days

PostHero counts any day except Sunday (Monday through Saturday) as a business day, with no hour restriction. The state map colors and the Delayed status use business days.

PostHero State Map Colors

The PostHero state map uses color to show regional delivery performance, based on the average number of business days from order creation to delivery.

Color Average Business Days (Order Created to Delivered)
Green ≤ 3 business days
Yellow ≥ 4 business days
Red ≥ 6 business days

PostHero Delivery Status Definitions

PostHero sorts shipped, undelivered orders that need attention into two statuses. Orders that are delivered, or in transit and on schedule, don't receive a status.

Status Definition
Delayed Shipped 7 or more business days ago, not yet delivered, but had a carrier update within the last 2 business days.
Lost or stuck Shipped but not delivered, and the last carrier update was more than 2 days ago. The order keeps this status until the carrier updates it or you mark it as resolved.

The All view on the dashboard shows both statuses together.

Using PostHero Metrics to Improve Delivery Performance

PostHero data is most useful when it drives changes in your fulfillment and carrier strategy.

Analyzing Carrier Metrics in PostHero

Use the PostHero Shipping method filter to review carrier metrics based on your actual order volume:

  • Average Delivery Time: Compare carriers and regions, and check that you're meeting your promised delivery times.
  • Problematic Orders: See which carrier generates the most issues, and decide where to reduce volume or switch carriers.
  • Carrier Selection: When a carrier performs poorly in a region, update your rate shopping or automation rules to route those orders to a better-performing carrier.

Improving the PostHero "Ready to Shipped" Metric

Because the PostHero Ready to Shipped metric ends when the shipping label is created, it shows delays inside your warehouse before a carrier touches the order. If your average is over 1 business day (Red), focus on these areas:

Area of Improvement Actionable Tips
Warehouse Operations Optimize picking routes, implement wave picking, and align staff shifts with peak order times to minimize non-productive time.
Technology & Automation Use ShipHero's automation rules to prioritize time-sensitive orders and use mobile scanning to update order status instantly during picking and packing.
