ShipHero now offers three ways to optimize Multi Item Batch (MIB) picking:
NOTE: Feature for Dynamic Slotting.
- By Location to Minimize Walk
- By Location Prefix to Minimize Walk
- By Required Ship Date, then Priority
Choosing Batch Picking Type
Open the settings page at https://app.shiphero.com/dashboard/settings/app. Here you can find the option to select a Multi-Item Batch Picking Type.
Important: Sort by order (Bin or SKU) will also affect how you choose to minimize walk. If you choose by SKU, the application may have you to go back to an isle after you have picked from that isle. If you want to sort by location, choose Bin so that you are picking from locations in order.
Optimize Batches by Location to Minimize Walk
This works better if you have multiple items per location.
This setting will start with the oldest order and look for other orders with items in the same location. If you have multiple items per location, the system will likely find other orders that share the location.
Optimize Batches by Location Prefix to Minimize Walk
This works better if each SKU is in its own location.
It is similar to the option above, except that instead of looking only at the location, it looks for orders that share a location prefix. The prefix is the first 3 characters of the location. For example, if the location name is 020-10-A, the prefix would be 020. This allows the system to find other orders close to the location, not only those that share the location.
Optimize Batches by Required Ship Date, then Priority.
This looks for orders that need to go out first and does not try to minimize how far you need to walk to pick the batch.
These settings can be changed at any time. For example, in the morning, you can have it set to by Location Prefix, and when it's getting late and you need to concentrate on the required orders, you can change it to by Required Ship Date, then Priority.
