A customs value is the total value of all items in your shipment, and it determines how much import duty the package recipient must pay. All international shipments are subject to duties and taxes. The shipper or exporter is responsible for including customs value-only statements on the customs or commercial invoice.

Where ShipHero Gets the Customs Value
ShipHero checks four places for a customs value, in this order of precedence. When the first value is 0, ShipHero moves to the next one until it finds a value greater than 0.
- Order Line Item Customs Value
- Product Customs Value
- Line Item Price
- Product Price
When all four values are $0, ShipHero sends a customs value of $0.01. ShipHero cannot send a value of 0.
Where to Find Each Customs Value Field in ShipHero
1. Order Line Item Customs Value
Go to the Order Details page and find the product you need. The value sits in the Product Details column, and ShipHero adds it automatically from the Customs Value on the Product Details page.
To change the value for one product on one order, select the amount and follow the prompts in the module.
2. Product Customs Value
The Product Customs Value sits on the product details page, where you can update it for a single product. To update the customs value for several products at once, use the Bulk Edit CSV or the Bulk Edit module on the Inventory > Products page.
3. Line Item Price as a Customs Value Fallback
The Line Item Price sits on the order details page. This amount does not include any discounts. ShipHero pulls it from the price specified at the store level when the order is created. Orders created by CSV or through the API count as store orders and use the value supplied at order creation. For a manual order created in ShipHero, the price comes from the product details page unless someone adjusted it during order creation.
4. Product Price as a Customs Value Fallback
The product price sits on the product details page, where you can update it for a single product. To update it for several products at once, use the Bulk Edit CSV or the Bulk Edit module on the Inventory > Products page.
How ShipHero Calculates Customs Value for Kits
A Kit SKU can hold one or more component SKUs, each with its own customs value. ShipHero sums the customs values of the components and applies that total to the Kit SKU on the order.
For example, a kit holds three components: one hat with a $6 customs value, one shirt at $9, and one bag at $10. The kit's customs value is $25.
When a Kit Price Is Lower Than Its Combined Component Customs Values
Retailers often discount items when a customer buys them as a bundle, so the price paid is less than the sum of the components. ShipHero compares the price paid for the Kit SKU against the combined customs values of its components, then uses that ratio to adjust the Kit SKU's final customs value.
Using the kit above, the combined component customs value is $25 but the customer paid $20. ShipHero calculates an adjustment percentage:
Price paid for Kit SKU / Combined Customs Value of components = Adjustment %
$20 / $25 = 0.8, or 80%.
ShipHero applies that percentage to each component's customs value (Customs Value * Adjustment % = Adjusted Customs Value), then sums the results to reach the Kit SKU's final customs value of $20.
