Shopify Locations can act as a trigger in Automation Rules, so ShipHero can route or lock an order based on the Shopify location its items were assigned to. Setting this up takes three steps, plus a fourth if you use Multi-Warehouse Allocation.
Before You Begin
You need a connected Shopify store with its locations synced into ShipHero. If you operate a 3PL account, sign into the client account first, because Shopify location data and the sync control are only available there.
For every trigger and action ShipHero offers, see Automation Rule Triggers and Actions Reference. If you are new to Automation Rules, start with How to Use Automation Rules in ShipHero.

How to Set Up the Shopify Locations Automation Rule Trigger
Step 1: Confirm Your Shopify Locations in ShipHero
- Go to My Account > Stores.
- Select Settings, then open the Locations tab.
- When your locations do not appear, select Sync Locations.
Note for 3PLs: To view Shopify location information and sync, you must be signed into the client account. The Shopify Item Assigned to Location trigger requires exactly one client, so it is unavailable when creating one rule for several clients. Copying a rule that uses this trigger to another client account works only when the same Shopify location to warehouse mapping is available to the destination client. See How to Duplicate Automation Rules.
Step 2: Enable the Shopify Locations Feature Flag
- Go to the Store Settings page.
- Select Save Item Fulfillment Location When Importing Orders.
- Select Save.
Important
Enabling this setting increases your Shopify API usage. Turn it on only if you plan to actively use these Automation Rules.
Step 3: Create Your Shopify Location Automation Rule
Set your rules up before any new orders import, because Automation Rules do not apply retroactively.
- Go to Orders > Automation Rules.
- Select Create New Rule.
- Enter a Name for the rule.
- Select the Shopify Item Assigned to Location trigger, then choose the condition and the location from the dropdowns.
- Select the action you want from the Action dropdown.
- Select Create.
When you pair this trigger with the Lock to Warehouse action and you have Multi-Warehouse Allocation enabled, continue to Step 4.
Step 4: Configure Multi-Warehouse Allocation for Locked Warehouses
When you use the Lock to Warehouse action with Multi-Warehouse Allocation enabled, you also need an MWA rule to hold the warehouse assignment. Without one, your existing MWA rules can override it.
- Go to the MW Allocation page.
- Select Create New Rule.
- Set your conditions, then under Actions select Allocate and Backorder to Locked Warehouse.
For more on building these rules, see How to Use Multi-Warehouse Allocation Rules.
