The United States Postal Service (USPS) offers a service called USPS Modern that requires a direct connection as a carrier within ShipHero. This article provides instructions on setting up your USPS Modern account and connecting it to the ShipHero platform.
By connecting a USPS Modern account to ShipHero, the ShipHero Merchant Rate Card (MRC) is automatically activated for your account. You can view the ShipHero MRC with USPS here.

How to Create a USPS Modern Account
Before integrating with ShipHero, you must register for a USPS Business Account and enroll in the USPS Ship program. Please read through these helpful tools, tips, and recommendations before moving on to creating your USPS Modern account.
Helpful USPS Modern EPS tools and tips:
- Payment Information: The payment information (name and address) must exactly match the details on the payment method used.
- Daily Spending Limit: Set the daily spending limit above $500 to preauthorize funds for your account, please note that USPS will pre-check available funding from your payment source.
- Prioritize Payment Methods: Drag-and-drop the payment methods to set a priority order.
- Auditing Transactions: Review the Transactions section in the BCG to check if USPS marked any previous payments as invalid.
Payment Method Recommendations
- Use a Credit Card or ACH payments, not the USPS Trust option. The USPS Trust option is not recommended for initial setup as it may cause connection delays and cannot be deleted.
- Redundancy: We recommend adding at least two credit cards to prevent operational disruptions if one card fails. Some American Express cards may trigger fraud alerts or suspensions.
- Suspended Methods: If a payment method is suspended, the connection to ShipHero will fail. You must remove the invalid method and provide a valid one before proceeding.
Where to find your USPS Modern Account Credentials
To connect to ShipHero, you will need your CRID, MID, and EPS number. Use the following table to locate these credentials within the USPS portals:
| Credential Type | Portal Link |
|---|---|
| CRID (Customer Registration ID) | USPS Gateway Home |
| MID (Mailer ID) | USPS MID Tool |
