When your business ships from more than one location, multi-warehouse setup in ShipHero keeps inventory counts accurate at each warehouse and sends each order to the right one. Start by creating each additional warehouse in your account, then choose how ShipHero assigns orders to them.
Before You Begin
- Activation required: Contact ShipHero Support to turn on multi-warehouse for your account. Until it's on, Create a new Warehouse doesn't appear in the Warehouse dropdown.
- Supported account types: Multi-warehouse is available for 3PL, Brand, and Hybrid accounts.

How to Create an Additional Warehouse in ShipHero
Each additional warehouse is created from the Warehouses page in My Account.
Note for 3PLs: Select All in the customer dropdown first. When a client account is selected, you can't create a new warehouse for the default profile.
- Go to My Account > Warehouses.
- Select Add A Warehouse.

Select default in the Profile dropdown and Create a new Warehouse in the Warehouse dropdown.

Enter the warehouse Name (for example, NY Warehouse or Seattle Location) and select OK. The name is the warehouse's identifier and can't be changed later.
- Select Continue and fill in the details for the new warehouse.
- Select Save Warehouse.
Basic Multi-Warehouse Setup (Legacy)
The basic multi-warehouse setup assigns orders to warehouses using one of three account-wide methods:

| Primary warehouse | All orders go to the primary warehouse, and products are only created there. You add products and assign orders to other warehouses by hand. |
| By priority | Orders go to the highest-priority warehouse that has the stock to ship the order. |

With the basic setup, the Order Details page shows two warehouse columns: Allocated Warehouse and Locked Warehouse. When Locked Warehouse shows System Will Assign, ShipHero follows your setup method. Select a specific warehouse in Locked Warehouse to override it. See Understanding the Difference Between Locked and Allocated Warehouses.
Multi-Warehouse Allocation Rules (Recommended)
Multi-Warehouse Allocation (MWA) rules decide which warehouse each item on an order is allocated or backordered to. Manage them on the MW Allocation page.
Activation Required for Multi-Warehouse Allocation
Brand accounts: contact ShipHero Support to turn on Multi-Warehouse Allocation (MWA). 3PLs: turn on MWA for each client yourself from the MW Allocation page. See How to Use Multi-Warehouse Allocation Rules.
Like automation rules, MWA rules have Conditions that decide which orders the rule applies to and Actions that decide what happens to the items on the order. Unlike automation rules, only one MWA rule runs per order: the first rule in your list that the order matches.

- You have several warehouses and need detailed rules for where items ship from.
- You share a 3PL client with another 3PL that also uses ShipHero.

Where can I see the warehouse assigned to an order?
These pages show which warehouse an order, or each item on it, is assigned to:

Orders > Manage Orders: The Warehouses column shows the warehouse assigned to each order.

How do I change the warehouse assigned to an order?
How you change an order's warehouse depends on your multi-warehouse setup.
Changing the Warehouse with the Basic Multi-Warehouse Setup
With the basic multi-warehouse setup, use the Locked Warehouse column on the Order Details page.
- Open the order's Order Details page.
- For each SKU you want to move, select the warehouse in the Locked Warehouse dropdown.
- Select Save Changes, under the order total.
Changing the Warehouse with MWA Rules
With MWA rules, you need an MWA rule whose condition matches the order, then you reprocess the order so the rule runs again. A common way to do this is with an order tag.
For example, to move an order from the Seattle warehouse to the Primary warehouse:

Create the MWA rule:
- Condition: Select Order contains tags, type the tag Primary, and press Enter.
- Action: Select Allocate and from single warehouse and Backorder, then select Primary in the From Warehouses dropdown.
- Select Save and name the rule.
- Add the tag to the order: On the Order Details page, type Primary in the Order Tags section, press Enter, and select Save Tags.
- Reprocess the order: In the Actions section of the Order Details page, select Reprocess. Reprocessing runs the MWA rules on the order again and starts the reallocation.

Reallocation can take a few moments on orders with many SKUs. If the allocated and backordered quantities don't update, wait a moment and select Reprocess again.
For a new manual order or transfer order, add the tag in the Order Tags section when you create it. MWA rules use tags that are on the order at creation, so you don't need to reprocess. See How to Use Order Tags in ShipHero.
