Connecting an Endicia (USPS) Account to ShipHero

This article covers both connection paths for Endicia in ShipHero — signing up for a new account or connecting an existing one — along with available settings and Pay-On-Use return label configuration.

Before You Begin

Endicia offers two connection paths. Review both options below and choose the one that applies to your account:

  • New account: Sign up directly through ShipHero to receive discounted USPS rates, free supplies, and free package pickup.
  • Existing account: Connect via ShipHero Support. You will need your Endicia Account Number and PassPhrase. If you do not know your PassPhrase, request it directly from Endicia.

New to Endicia? See Overview: Endicia (USPS) in ShipHero for supported features and international shipping details.

Important

A new Endicia account created through ShipHero is automatically connected to the primary warehouse's default profile. To connect it to additional warehouses or custom profiles, contact ShipHero Support.

Connecting an Existing Endicia Account to ShipHero

To connect an existing Endicia account or if you have NSA rates with Endicia, you must partner with the ShipHero Support team. Provide the following information when contacting Support:

Required Endicia Connection Information

Field Description
Warehouse The physical warehouse location you are shipping from.
Profile Use the default profile to make the connection available for all orders. Use a custom profile if only specific orders should use this account. See How to Use Warehouse Profiles.
Endicia Account Number A unique identifier, typically a 6-digit number like 929376.
Endicia PassPhrase The PassPhrase for software integration — this is NOT your Endicia.com login password.
Mailed From ZIP Optional. Use if shipping from a different ZIP code than your return address to ensure correct zone calculation and label origin.

ShipHero Support cannot provide your PassPhrase due to confidentiality. If you do not know your PassPhrase, request it directly from Endicia to have it sent to your registered email.

Available Endicia Settings After Connecting

Once connected, manage your Endicia settings by navigating to the Legacy Shipping > Carriers page and selecting the Settings button on your Endicia connection.

Setting Description
Cut-Off Time Sets when the carrier driver typically arrives. Labels generated after this time print with the following day's creation date.
Add Funds Prepay your Endicia account using the credit card on file. Enter an amount and click Add Funds.
Pay On Use Returns Only pay for return labels when the label is scanned. Requires Endicia representative approval before enabling in ShipHero. See Pay-On-Use Return Labels below.
Mailed From ZIP Overrides the origin ZIP on the label with your 5-digit warehouse ZIP. Use when your business return address differs from your shipping warehouse location.
Disable Quoting Hides Endicia from rate shopping tools and cheapest shipping method calculations.

Pro-Tip

Set your Cut-Off Time at least 30 minutes before your actual carrier pickup. This gives your team a buffer to finalize the manifest and ensures all packages are included on the daily SCAN form.

Endicia Pay-On-Use Return Labels

Endicia charges for postage the moment a label is printed. Pay-On-Use Return Labels allow you to provide a return label to a customer while only being charged if the label is actually scanned into the mail stream.

  • Benefit: Avoid tying up capital in prepaid return labels that may never be used.
  • Requirements: Contact your Endicia representative to enable this feature on your account before toggling it on in ShipHero.
  • Restrictions: Not available for military (APO/FPO/DPO) addresses.
  • Supported Methods: Priority, Express, First Class, and ParcelSelect.

Important Reminders when Connecting a Carrier Account

  • Using Custom Profiles: Custom profiles allow you to connect the same carrier account multiple times with unique settings, such as specific Incoterms or 3rd Party Billing. For these settings to apply, the order must be assigned to that specific profile. If the assigned profile lacks a connected carrier, ShipHero will automatically use the carrier account connected the warehouse’s default profile for the selected shipping method. This ensures your specialized billing and shipping terms are applied correctly to every label. Visit the following article for more information on How to Use Warehouse Profiles.
  • Multi-Warehouse Accounts: To generate labels from multiple warehouses, you must connect your carrier account to each individual location in ShipHero to avoid shipping errors or billing discrepancies. Please consult your carrier to determine if a single account number supports multiple origins or if unique accounts are required for each site. This is especially critical for international locations, as carrier operations vary by country.
  • Note for 3PLs: When connecting a new carrier account to ShipHero, double check your 3PL Clients' Settings to ensure you are connecting the carrier account to the correct ShipHero account; if Use Customer's Shipping Accounts is enabled the carrier account must be connected at the child account level, if Use Customer's Shipping Account is not enabled, the carrier account needs to be enabled at the 3PL level. More information about Managing 3PL Client Settings can be found here.
