Understanding DHL eCommerce Fuel Charges

Shipping with DHL eCommerce in ShipHero includes automated fuel surcharge calculations for both domestic and international shipments. These surcharges are added to your quoted rates to ensure billing accuracy. ShipHero updates these rates monthly based on the current market rates published by DHL.

You can view the latest rates on the DHL Published Fuel Surcharges website.

Fuel Surcharge Calculation Logic

ShipHero calculates fuel surcharges based on the total weight of the shipment. Understanding how weight impacts these charges ensures your shipping costs remain predictable.

Weight Category Calculation Method
Shipments over 1 pound Surcharges are calculated on a rounded-up, per-pound basis. For example, a 1.5-pound shipment is charged the 2-pound fuel rate.
Shipments under 1 pound DHL charges based on the grouped weight of all parcel services. ShipHero does not display individual fuel costs for packages under one pound.

For packages under one pound, DHL aggregates the weight of multiple parcels. If you ship two packages weighing 0.5 pounds each, DHL applies the fuel surcharge for 1 pound total rather than charging each package individually.
