DHL Express integrates with ShipHero to provide international shipping services, enabling merchants to generate labels, manage customs documentation, and access DHL Express rates directly from their warehouse workflow.
Pay-on-Scan billing: Your DHL Express account is only charged when the carrier physically scans the package — not when the label is printed.
DHL Express Key Features
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Label Voiding | Voiding is not required. Unused labels are not billed due to the Pay-on-Scan model. |
| End of Day Manifest | Automated via Electronic Closeout. No physical printout is needed. |
| Paperless Trade (PLT) | When PLT is supported, customs documents are sent electronically rather than printed. Only available for specific countries and limited by total declared customs value per country. |
| Multi-Package Shipments | Each package is processed individually with its own dimensions. See Processing Multi-Package Orders in ShipHero. |
| Duties: Shipper vs Recipient | Configurable at the carrier connection level. When enabled, the shipper pays duties. When disabled, the recipient pays. See How to charge international shipping duties. |
DHL Express Dimensional Weight Calculation
DHL Express calculates shipping costs based on Dimensional Weight (the space a package occupies) versus its Actual Weight. The greater of the two is used for billing, except for dangerous goods which always use actual weight.
Dimensional Weight (lbs) = (Length × Width × Height) / 137
Maximum weight and dimensions vary by service and destination. If a package exceeds DHL limits, DHL will return an error during the quote or label request.
DHL Express Regional Considerations
| Consideration | Description |
|---|---|
| Shipments to Northern Ireland | Northern Ireland (BT postal codes) is treated as part of the EU for duty purposes. Shipments from EU countries to Northern Ireland are not marked as dutiable. |
