Breaking a UOM converts a larger unit (such as a Master Case or Pallet) into its smaller component UOMs or Eaches. You can do this from the web app or from the mobile app during an inventory transfer.
Breaking a UOM updates inventory counts for both the larger UOM and its components in real time. See How UOM Inventory is Calculated for more detail on how counts are affected.
Using the Web App
- Go to Inventory > Products and open the product page for the UOM you want to break down.
- Scroll down to the Bins section.
- Click Break into and select which UOM or Each you want to convert the inventory into.
Using the Mobile App
On the mobile app, UOMs are broken down during a location transfer. Use this method when you need to move inventory from a larger UOM storage location into a smaller UOM or Each location.
Important
A UOM cannot be transferred directly into a location that is already assigned to one of its nested component products without first breaking it into the smaller UOM.
- Go to Inventory > Search items in the ShipHero Mobile app.
- Open the product page for the UOM you want to break into smaller units.
- Tap Edit Inventory, then tap Location Transfer.
- Select the source location by searching for it or scanning it.
- Select the destination — either a location already assigned to the component product, or an empty location.
- Tap Break UOM into and choose which smaller UOM or Each you want to break into.
- Enter how many units you want to transfer. The screen will show how many smaller units will be created in the destination location.
- Tap Confirm to complete the transfer.
