ShipHero classifies every order's shipping address as business or residential. When available, ShipHero passes the business flag to the carrier for rate and label requests. Check with your carrier representative to confirm all charges are accounted for based on the service and destination.
How ShipHero Classifies the Shipping Address
For shipping addresses within the United States, ShipHero validates the address using Smarty, a third-party address validation service. Smarty returns a Residential Delivery Indicator (RDI) that tells ShipHero whether the address is a business or a home.
When Smarty returns RDI = Commercial, ShipHero classifies the address as a business address. For any other result, including addresses Smarty can't validate, ShipHero classifies the address as residential.
For international orders, ShipHero only validates the address when shipping with FedEx. FedEx classifies the address as business if FedEx identifies it as a business or a company name is entered, and residential otherwise. Other carriers have no international address validation, so ShipHero defaults to residential unless you set the classification manually with the Business Address toggle.
How to Change the Business Address Classification
Use the Business Address toggle on the Edit Order page to set an order's shipping address classification, regardless of how ShipHero validated the address.
- Go to the order's Details page and find the Business Address toggle.
- Toggle Business Address on to classify the address as business, or off to classify it as residential.
- Click the Update Details button to save.
