The order value, size, and weight automation rule triggers match an order on what it costs or how big and heavy it is. Use them to hold high-value orders for review, pack bulky orders in a larger box, or change the shipping method for heavy orders. ShipHero has eight of these triggers: four read the order amounts, and four read the weight and dimensions of the products on the order.
Before You Begin
- Product data: The weight and dimension triggers read the weight and size saved on each product. Save a weight and the length, width, and height on your products before you build the rule.
- When rules run: Automation rules run once, when an order is created or imported, and only on orders that arrive after the rule exists. Orders already in ShipHero are not updated.
For every trigger ShipHero offers, see Automation Rule Triggers Reference. To build a rule, see How to Use Automation Rules in ShipHero. If a rule does not run, see Troubleshooting: Why Is My Automation Rule Not Working?

Order Value Automation Rule Triggers
The order value triggers match an order on the dollar amounts your sales channel sent with it: Order Total, Subtotal, Sales tax, and Shipping price. Each one uses the Numeric conditions: equals, not equals, greater than, greater than or equal to, less than, less than or equal to, in list, and not in list. Use in list to match several amounts with one rule. See How to Create and Manage Automation Rule Lists in ShipHero. The value box does not accept commas, so enter 1000, not 1,000.
| Trigger | What it checks | What to enter | When it does not fire |
|---|---|---|---|
| Order Total | The total price of the order, shown as Total on the order page. | A number, such as 149.99. | The sales channel sent no total, so the value is 0 and a greater than 0 rule never matches. |
| Subtotal | The order total before tax and shipping, as the sales channel sent it. | A number, such as 120.00. | The sales channel sent no subtotal, so the value is 0. |
| Sales tax | The sales tax amount on the order. | A number, such as 8.25. | The order is marked as tax included in the total, so Sales tax is always 0. The sales channel sent no tax, so the value is 0. |
| Shipping price | What the customer paid for shipping at checkout. | A number, such as 7.95. Enter 0 to match free shipping. | The sales channel sent no shipping price, so the value is 0. Orders created by hand and CSV Order Upload rows without an amount also have a value of 0. |
Weight and Dimension Automation Rule Triggers
The weight and dimension triggers match an order on the weight and size saved on its products: Total weight of products in the order in ounces (oz), Products Total Cubic Inches, Any product dimension in inches, and All product dimensions in inches. All four count every line on the order, including canceled, fulfilled, and auto-fulfilled lines. Each one uses the Numeric conditions: equals, not equals, greater than, greater than or equal to, less than, less than or equal to, in list, and not in list. The value box does not accept commas.
| Trigger | What it checks | What to enter | When it does not fire | Set up first |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Total weight of products in the order in ounces (oz) | The combined weight of every product line on the order, in ounces. ShipHero multiplies each product's weight by the quantity ordered. | A number of ounces, such as 160 for 10 pounds. | Every product on the order has a weight of 0. | Save a weight on each product. A product with no weight counts as 0.05 oz. |
| Products Total Cubic Inches | The combined volume of every product on the order, in cubic inches. ShipHero multiplies length by width by height, then by the quantity ordered. | A number of cubic inches, such as 1200. | A product has a length, width, or height of 0, so its volume is 0 and it never adds to a positive total. | Save the length, width, and height in inches on each product. |
| Any product dimension in inches | Matches when any one side (length, width, or height) of any one product on the order meets the condition. | A number of inches, such as 24. With greater than 24, one long side on one product is enough. | No side of any product meets the condition. A product with no dimensions has sides of 0. | Save the length, width, and height in inches on each product. |
| All product dimensions in inches | Matches only when every side (length, width, and height) of every product on the order meets the condition. | A number of inches, such as 12. With less than 12, every side of every product must be under 12 inches. | One side of one product does not meet the condition, so the rule does not run. | Save the length, width, and height in inches on each product. |
Kits in Weight and Dimension Automation Rule Triggers
The weight and dimension triggers use the weight and dimensions of a kit's components, not the weight and dimensions saved on the kit SKU. A Build Kit and a Standard Kit work the same way. ShipHero counts each component at its own weight and size, multiplied by the quantity ordered. This applies to all four triggers: Total weight of products in the order in ounces (oz), Products Total Cubic Inches, Any product dimension in inches, and All product dimensions in inches.
To make a kit count toward a weight or dimension rule, save the weight and the length, width, and height on each component product. A weight or size saved only on the kit SKU is not used.
Order Value, Size, and Weight Automation Rule Trigger Examples
These examples pair an order value, size, or weight trigger with an action. Change the numbers to fit your products and your orders.
| Use case | Trigger | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Review high-value orders before they ship | Order Total is greater than or equal to 500 | Set Operator Hold |
| Pack bulky orders in a larger box | Products Total Cubic Inches is greater than 1000 | Set box to use |
| Change the shipping method for heavy orders | Total weight of products in the order in ounces (oz) is greater than 160 | Set shipping method |
| Alert the pack station to a long item | Any product dimension in inches is greater than 48 | Add Warehouse Note |
