The address and customer automation rule triggers match an order on where it is going and who placed it. Use them to send international orders down a different path, handle PO Box addresses, or choose a shipping method by USPS zone. ShipHero has 12 of these triggers: seven address fields, two shipping and billing matches, USPS Zone, Email, and Phone Number.
Before You Begin
- Address source: Address triggers read the shipping address as it imports, before address validation. A correction made by address validation does not change what the trigger sees.
- When rules run: Automation rules run once, when an order is created or imported, and only on orders that arrive after the rule exists. Orders already in ShipHero are not updated.
For every trigger ShipHero offers, see Automation Rule Triggers Reference. To build a rule, see How to Use Automation Rules in ShipHero. If a rule does not run, see Troubleshooting: Why Is My Automation Rule Not Working?

Address Automation Rule Triggers
The address triggers match the shipping address on the order, never the billing address. Each one uses the Text conditions: equals, not equals, contains, does not contain, starts with, not starts with, ends with, not ends with, greater than, greater than or equal to, less than, less than or equal to, in list, not in list, in list contains, not in list contains, in list starts with, not in list starts with, in list ends with, and not in list ends with.
| Trigger | What it checks | What to enter | When it does not fire |
|---|---|---|---|
| Address 1, Address 2, City, Company, and Zipcode | Address line 1, address line 2, city, company name, and zip code on the shipping address. | Type the text as it appears on the order. Upper and lower case are treated the same. | The order has extra spaces that your value does not, because ShipHero does not trim spaces. Address 1, City, and Zipcode never match an order that has no value there. |
| Country | The country on the shipping address, written as a two-character country code. | Enter the two-character code, such as US. Do not enter United States. | The order has the full country name and your value is the code, or the other way around. |
| State | The state on the shipping address, written as a two-character state abbreviation. | Enter the two-character abbreviation, such as CA. Do not enter California. | The order has the full state name and your value is the abbreviation, or the other way around. |
Shipping and Billing Match Automation Rule Triggers
The shipping and billing match triggers check whether part of the shipping address is the same as the billing address. Each one uses the Yes or No conditions: yes and no.
| Trigger | What it checks | What to enter | When it does not fire |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shipping and billing address 1 match | Whether address line 1 is the same on the shipping and billing addresses. ShipHero compares only the first 9 characters. | Select yes or no. | Either address line 1 is empty, or the first 9 characters differ, such as "1 Main St" and "01 Main St". |
| Shipping and billing Zip match | Whether the zip code is the same on the shipping and billing addresses. ShipHero compares only the first 5 characters, so a ZIP+4 matches the 5-digit zip. | Select yes or no. | Either zip code is empty, such as when the store never sent a billing zip, or the first 5 characters differ. |
USPS Zone Automation Rule Trigger
The USPS Zone trigger matches the USPS shipping zone between the zip code of your primary warehouse and the destination zip. It uses the Numeric conditions: equals, not equals, greater than, greater than or equal to, less than, less than or equal to, in list, and not in list.
| Trigger | What it checks | What to enter | When it does not fire | Set up first |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| USPS Zone | The USPS shipping zone, calculated from the zip code of your primary warehouse and the destination zip. | A whole number, such as 5. | ShipHero has no zone for that pair of zips, or the order has no destination zip. | Save a zip code on the address of your primary warehouse. |
Email and Phone Number Automation Rule Triggers
The Email and Phone Number triggers match contact details on the order. Each one uses the Text conditions, listed in the address section above.
| Trigger | What it checks | What to enter | When it does not fire |
|---|---|---|---|
| The customer email, taken from the billing address. | Type the full email, or use ends with and a domain such as @example.com to match a whole company. | The order has no email, or the spelling differs from your value. | |
| Phone Number | The shipping phone number on the order. | Type the number exactly as it appears on the order, with the same spaces, dashes, and parentheses. | Your value is formatted differently, such as (123) 456-7890 on the order and 1234567890 in the rule. |
