The shipping automation rule triggers match an order on how it will ship: the carrier, the shipping method, and the shipping option the customer chose at checkout. Use them to route orders by carrier, add a note for expedited service, or react to a specific checkout option. ShipHero has three of these triggers: Shipping carrier, Shipping method, and Shipping name.
Before You Begin
- Shipping method mapping: Shipping carrier and Shipping method come from your shipping method mapping. Map each store shipping option before you build the rule. See Shipping Methods Mapping.
- Earlier rules: A Set shipping method rule can change the carrier and method. Place it below any rule that reads the original values.
- When rules run: Automation rules run once, when an order is created or imported, and only on orders that arrive after the rule exists. Orders already in ShipHero are not updated.
For every trigger ShipHero offers, see Automation Rule Triggers Reference. To build a rule, see How to Use Automation Rules in ShipHero. If a rule does not run, see Troubleshooting: Why Is My Automation Rule Not Working?

| Trigger | What it checks | What to enter | When it does not fire |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shipping carrier | The carrier the order is assigned to, set by your shipping method mapping. | The carrier name, such as UPS, USPS, or FedEx. Upper and lower case are treated the same. | The store shipping option is not mapped, so the order has no carrier. |
| Shipping method | The shipping method the order is assigned to, set by your shipping method mapping. | The method name, such as 2 Day, Ground, or Express. Upper and lower case are treated the same. | The store shipping option is not mapped, or your value is the checkout name instead of the ShipHero method. |
| Shipping name | The shipping option the customer selected at checkout. It matches the Shipping name field on the Shipping Methods Mapping page. | The option as the store shows it, such as Free Shipping, Economy, or International Economy. Upper and lower case are treated the same, and extra spaces between words count as one space. | Your value differs from the store's option name, such as an extra word or a different spelling. |
Shipping Name, Shipping Method, and Shipping Carrier Compared
Shipping name comes from your store. Shipping method and Shipping carrier come from ShipHero. Choose by where the value you know lives.
| Trigger | Where the value comes from | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Shipping name | The shopping cart, as the customer chose it at checkout. | You want to react to the exact option the customer picked, such as Free Shipping. |
| Shipping method | Your shipping method mapping in ShipHero. | You want to match the service the order will ship with, such as Ground. |
| Shipping carrier | Your shipping method mapping in ShipHero. | You want to match every service from one carrier, such as UPS. |
