How to Use the 'Ships Alone' Product Setting

Ships Alone is a product-level setting that tells ShipHero to separate a specific item into its own shipment. When enabled, the item is removed from the main order grouping and picked and packed independently. This is ideal for items that ship in their original manufacturer packaging or for oversized products that require specialized handling.

Ships Alone Requirements

Ensure the following requirements are met before using this feature:

  • Activation: Contact ShipHero Support to enable Ships Alone for your account.
  • Multi-Warehouse Allocation (MWA): MWA must be enabled. See the MWA Setup Guide for details.
  • Mobile App: Ensure you are using version 2.2.5.314 or later.
  • 3PL Accounts: Both MWA and Ships Alone must be enabled at the client account level.

Workflow Comparison

Example: An order containing a large desk, a keyboard, and a mouse.

Feature A: Without Ships Alone B: With Ships Alone
Picking Logic All items grouped in one picking task. Desk is moved to a separate task.
Workflow Picker visits standard bins and bulk storage in one trip. Desk is processed as a Single-Item Batch.
Fulfillment One shipment (one label). Two shipments (two labels).
Operational Impact Potential bottleneck: Small item picking is slowed down by oversized item handling. High Efficiency: Specialized teams or equipment (forklifts) can focus on the desks separately.

Ships Alone Limitations

Limitation Description
Bulk Updates Editing the Ships Alone setting in bulk via CSV is not currently supported.
Kits Ships Alone is not supported for Kit SKUs or their individual components.
Quantity Logic Each unit is treated as a separate shipment. A quantity of 3 for a Ships Alone SKU will generate 3 separate shipping labels.
Dimensions If no box size is defined on the order, ShipHero defaults to using the product dimensions as the package dimensions.
Wholesale Flow This setting is ignored during wholesale/B2B processing to allow for palletization.
