ShipHero's automation rules are built around a system of "triggers" and "actions." Triggers are the conditions an order must meet, and actions are the tasks that ShipHero automatically performs once those conditions are met. This allows you to streamline your international fulfillment process by automating tasks that would otherwise require manual intervention.
Here are some of the key automation rules and features you can use for international orders in ShipHero:
Adjusting Customs Documentation and Duties
Automation Rule | Definition | Action Values | Use Case |
Set Currency |
Set the order's currency field to the value specified in the rule configuration. | 3-letter ISO currency code; i.e., USD, EUR, GBP | Used when you need the currency on the order or the customs invoice to reflect something other than the account default.* |
Set FTR Exemption |
Sets an FTR exemption code for the specified country and product. | Supported FTR codes. | Relieves exporters from the mandatory requirement of filing Electronic Export Information (EEI) in the Automated Export System (AES) for certain shipments. |
Set Incoterms |
Sets the International Commercial Terms (Incoterms) for international orders. | Select DDU or DDP option. | Used to conditionally change an order from the default setting of the carrier used to ship the order. |
Set Order Tax ID and Type |
Sets order import tax type and adds the Tax ID to the order. |
Select Tax Type from drop down. Tax ID is free form. |
These are the specified tax ID numbers for shipping to different entities or international countries. The code differs based on the region you're shipping to. |
Apply Discounts to Customs Value |
Applies the discount % to each product's custom value. | On/Off | Ensures the customs value accurately reflects the final price paid by the customer, which can prevent overcharging on duties and taxes. |
*Only the currency symbol will be updated when this automation rule action is used. ShipHero does not convert the price or value of the products/orders when the currency is changed.
Shipping and Carrier Selection
Automation Rule | Definition | Action Values | Use Case |
Set Profile |
Sets an order to a specific profile. | Select profile from dropdown. | If you have a FedEx account for domestic orders and a separate one for international orders, assign all orders shipping to a specific country to your "International" profile. |
Select a Shipping Method | Sets a specific carrier and shipping method on the order. | Select Carrier and Shipping Method from dropdown. | Set triggers based on the destination country, order weight, or total value to automatically set a specific international shipping method. This ensures the most appropriate and cost-effective shipping service is used for each order. |
Important Considerations:
- Triggers and Actions: Remember that every automation rule has a trigger (the "if" part) and an action (the "then" part). You can combine multiple triggers using "and" logic to create very specific rules.
- Order of Rules: The order of your automation rules matters. You can rearrange them to ensure that higher-priority rules run and override other rules if necessary.
- New Orders Only: Automation rules generally only apply to new orders after the rule has been activated. They do not retroactively apply to orders already in the system.
