Note: This guide is for information purposes only. While every attempt is made to ensure that information is accurate and up-to-date, some information is subject to change.

When troubleshooting printing issues on a Mac, one of the first steps is to enable CUPS. CUPS is a network printing service used by Mac computers. It allows you to set up your printers on a network, and customize options such as cash drawer setup.

How to Enable CUPS

To get started, go to https://localhost:631/printers/. This should bring up a screen with the heading "Web Interface is Disabled."

You should see the message 'The web interface is currently disabled. Run "cupsctl WebInterface=yes" to enable it.'

1. Select and copy the text, cupsctl WebInterface=yes.

2. Next, click the magnifying glass icon at the top right corner of your screen and search for "Terminal."

3. Once in the terminal, paste in the text cupsctl WebInterface=yes and press the RETURN key.

NOTE: Your username and password for CUPS will be the same as your Mac username and password. You can check your Mac username in System Preferences > Users & Groups.

5. To change the printer settings, click the printer name.
