How to Set Up a Workstation in ShipHero

The ShipHero Workstation app is needed for printing from our web and mobile apps. For general printing of labels and invoices from your computer, we recommend using the Packing App.

A workstation is a setup of printers and scales managed by the ShipHero Workstation Desktop App (also known as the Print Listener). It's required for printing through AppSync from `app.shiphero.com`, `shipping.shiphero.com`, and the ShipHero Mobile app. The user who initiates the print job must be assigned to a configured workstation.

Managing and Setting up a Workstation

Before getting started, make sure your computer meets the minimum hardware requirements. Only computers with the workstation app installed will appear on the Stations page; if a computer is not on the list, the workstation app must be installed and configured accordingly.

Please see this article for more information on Supported Hardware Devices.

  4. Navigate to the Stations page, assign the printers and scales for the workstation, and Save Settings

Multiple Stations can be set up on the same computer. This is most common when multiple label printers are connected to a single computer, and multiple users generate labels from the Single Orders function on the Mobile App.

Renaming a Workstation

The name of your workstation in the app will appear on the Stations page. To rename it, open the app, click on the current name, type in a new one, and click Save.

If multiple stations are assigned to one computer, you will be asked to name each one upon creation. If you need to edit this, the station must be removed and recreated.

Removing a Workstation

When troubleshooting the workstation app, it may be recommended to uninstall and reinstall the app. We recommend unregistering the computer from the app before uninstalling the app from the computer.

To remove a workstation, open the app on the computer it's installed on and use the link to unregister:

Assigning Users to the Workstation

To print from app.shiphero.com or the ShipHero Mobile App, a user must be assigned to an online workstation. Workstations can be shared, and the number of users assigned to a workstation is unlimited.

  1. Go to the Users & Roles page and select the user.
  2. Select the workstation from the Default Print Station dropdown and click Save.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my settings for one workstation overwriting another?

If your settings for a workstations are being overwritten by another station it could be that your computer was cloned. ShipHero does not support using cloned machines as separate devices. Because the cloned system is detected as being identical to the original, this interferes with ShipHero's ability to distinguish the two devices.
