How to Disable Quoting for a Carrier

The Disable Quoting setting allows you to exclude a specific carrier account from ShipHero's rate shopping tool. This ensures that the carrier's rates will not be quoted or considered when the system is rate shopping the cheapest shipping option for an order.

With this setting enabled, the carrier will only be used if one of their methods are explicitly mapped to the order's shipping method or assigned via an Automation Rule.

Please note, this excludes all shipping methods from the specified carrier in ShipHero's rate shopping tools. If there are specific methods you want available for this carrier, we recommend creating a custom cheapest method using the RateShop+ tool.  

Note for 3PLs: If you are a 3PL account using your clients' individual shipping accounts, this change must be made under the specific client's account, not the main 3PL page. This ensures the setting applies to the correct account connection.

Common Use Cases

Rate shopping is a handy feature for picking the most cost-effective carrier, but there are times when you need to prevent a carrier from being automatically selected.

Here are the most common reasons to disable quoting for a carrier:

Use Case Description
Forced Carrier Selection You want to use a specific carrier only when it is directly mapped to the order's shipping method, regardless of whether it's the cheapest option. This ensures non-negotiable carrier rules are followed.
Dedicated Use Accounts

You have a carrier account that is reserved for a specific purpose and should not be used for general fulfillment, such as:

  • An account strictly dedicated to printing return labels.
  • An account used for Third-Party Billing or specific large clients.
Troubleshooting If you are experiencing errors or issues with a carrier's live rate quotes, you can temporarily disable quoting to prevent it from failing the rate shopping process for all other carriers.
Rate Accuracy Concerns If a carrier's quoted rates are consistently inaccurate or misleading compared to the final invoiced cost, you may disable quoting to avoid the system incorrectly choosing it as the "cheapest" option.

How to Disable Quoting for a Carrier

Follow these simple steps to Diable Quoting for a carrier. Once enabled, The carrier will be excluded from all future automatic rate shopping and "Cheapest Rate" calculations.

  1. Navigate to the Shipping > Carriers page.
  2. Find the carrier you would like to disable and click on its Settings.
  3. On the carrier settings page, check the box labeled Disable Quoting.
  4. Click Update (or Save Changes) to save the setting.
