Reserving Inventory lets you set aside specific product quantities so they aren't sold through your regular sales channels.
Common reasons to reserve inventory:
- Prepare for sales events or high-demand periods.
- Support returns, exchanges, or specific order types.
- Prevent overselling items with limited stock.
ShipHero offers two ways to reserve inventory:
- The Reserved product setting
- Non-sellable locations in your warehouse
Method 1: The Reserved Product Setting
The Reserved setting reduces the available quantity pushed to your store platform. It does not update the Available quantity shown in ShipHero.
How to Edit the Reserved Amount
- Open the product details page.
- Click the edit pencil icon.
- Enter the number of units to reserve in the Reserve field.
- Click Update to save.
Important Notes
- Reserved inventory is not factored in when manually creating orders in ShipHero.
- Entering a negative number increases the units available on your sales channel.
- This setting does not prevent warehouse staff from picking reserved inventory.
- Reserve quantities set at the component level do not carry over to Kit SKUs — you must also set the reserve quantity on the Kit SKU itself.
Method 2: Non-Sellable Locations
Non-sellable locations physically separate reserved inventory, keeping it out of quantities pushed to sales channels and preventing it from being picked in daily warehouse flows. This is ideal for damaged goods or items you want to hold back.
- Set up your Non-Sellable Locations.
- Move the inventory you want to reserve into those locations.
Viewing Non-Sellable Inventory
- Locations Page: Filter by "non-sellable."
- Products Page: Add the "Non-Sellable Total" column.
- Product Details Page: Non-sellable inventory is shown separately from the On Hand total.
