USPS Modern Label Errors
USPS Modern label errors are messages that can appear when you generate labels with the USPS Modern integration in ShipHero.
USPS Modern Indicia Company Name Error (Code 160173)
When you generate a USPS Modern label, ShipHero may show this error:
"An indicia company name must be configured by USPS for manifestMID xxxxxxxxx in order to create a shipping label. Please contact your postal representative."
The manifestMID number in the error is your account's Mailer ID (MID). An indicia company name is the company name USPS has on file for that MID. USPS Modern returns this error when the ship-from company name in your ShipHero warehouse settings doesn't match the company name USPS has registered for your MID.
To fix it, contact your USPS representative and give them the warehouse name your account ships from in ShipHero. Ask them to register that name as the indicia company name for the MID shown in the error. See How to Manage the Ship From Address on a Label to confirm which name ShipHero prints on your labels.
If you don't have a USPS representative to contact, reach out to ShipHero Support for help finding who to contact.
Known USPS Modern Limitations
These USPS Modern behaviors are known limitations.
USPS Modern Letters and Flats Not Returned When Rate Shopping
Letters and Flats is not a time-bound service in USPS Modern, so ShipHero does not consider it for the Cheapest time-bound options (such as Cheapest 2-day and Cheapest 4-day) or for RateShop+ with a Maximum Delivery Time set. To use Letters and Flats, map the shipping method directly to your orders with automation rules or on the Shipping Methods page. For size limits and best practices, see How to Ship Letters and Flats with USPS Modern.
USPS Modern Labels Not Generating for International or Military Addresses
USPS Modern generates labels for international and military addresses (APO/FPO/DPO) only when USPS has explicitly approved your USPS Modern account. Make sure your USPS Business Account is configured and approved for all international and military destinations. For account setup, see Connecting USPS Modern to ShipHero.
USPS Modern Label Missing from a Manifest (SCAN Form)
A USPS Modern manifest includes only labels whose shipDate matches the day the manifest is created. A label created after the cut-off gets the next calendar day's shipDate, so it is included in the next day's auto-manifest. You cannot create a manual manifest after the end-of-day cut-off, and the USPS carrier must scan packages that are not on a manifest individually. For cut-off times and examples, see Understanding USPS Modern Manifests.
