Overview: NEW Mobile Picking Interface and Workflows (Beta)

The Mobile Picking Interface is an updated picking experience in the ShipHero mobile app that supports both Multi-Item Batch (MIB) and Single-Item Batch (SIB) workflows. It features a cleaner card-based design, simplified summaries, streamlined issue reporting, and an optional location scan step that ensures items are picked from the correct bin before the picker continues. This article explains what's different about the interface and walks through the picking flow for each method.

Before You Begin

  • The Mobile Picking Interface must be enabled by ShipHero support. Contact support to request activation and specify whether you want location scanning enforced or optional.
  • For an overview of all available picking methods, see Overview: Picking Methods in ShipHero.

The underlying MIB and SIB picking processes have not changed — the Mobile Picking Interface modernizes the screens and adds optional location scan enforcement. Existing pickers will find the flow familiar.

What's Different in the Mobile Picking Interface in ShipHero

The core picking process is the same as the standard interface. The changes are visual and functional improvements to the screens pickers interact with during a batch.

Feature What Changed
Picking list Replaced the text-heavy item list with a simplified card-based design. Cards show the key pick details at a glance, with optional map guidance for Location-Aware Picking.
Picking loop Tote scanning and item confirmation use clearer success and failure states. Multiple confirmation screens have been reduced.
Summary screen Shows orders completed, units picked, and tote assignments (including hospital tote support) in a single view.
Issue reporting Replaced the separate notes screen with a Report Issue button directly in the picking flow. Pre-set reasons (Missing units, Damaged item) speed up flagging.
Location scanning New optional step that requires pickers to scan the bin location before picking an item. Reduces mispicks caused by picking from the wrong bin. Enabled per account.

Multi-Item Batch (MIB) Picking with the Mobile Interface

MIB picking in the Mobile Interface follows the same flow as standard MIB — each picker carries one tote per order and scans items into the correct tote as they move through the warehouse. The updated screens offer cleaner item cards and a simplified summary at the end of the batch.

  1. Start picking. Scan or select the item to pick. The screen displays the number of totes the item belongs to — one tote equals one order.
  2. Pick the quantity. Follow the prompt to pick the required quantity. You can scan each tote as you place items inside, manually enter quantities, or reset counts if you make a mistake.
  3. Partial placement (optional). Place a portion of items into a tote and continue picking the remaining items as prompted.
  4. Review and complete. A summary screen shows picked items, orders covered, and quantities picked. Confirm to complete the batch.

MIB Picking with Location Scanning Enabled

When location scanning is enabled for your account, an additional step is added before picking each item. This verifies the picker is at the correct bin before inventory is counted.

  1. Scan the pick location. The app prompts you to scan the bin or shelf location. A confirmation screen appears once scanned. If the wrong location is scanned, the app prompts you to try again.
  2. Pick the item(s). Scan or select the item. The screen shows required units and which totes they belong to.
  3. Place items into totes. Scan the tote or select it on screen and place the picked units inside. Options available: reset count (if a mistake is made), enter quantity manually, or split placement across multiple totes.
  4. Repeat for each location. Move to the next location, scan the bin first, then continue the picking loop.
  5. Review and complete. Open the Picking Summary to see orders completed, units picked, and tote assignments (including hospital totes for flagged items). Confirm to complete the batch.

Pro-Tip

Location scanning is most effective when your bin locations have barcodes attached. If you're setting up location barcodes for the first time, see How to Create and Manage Locations in ShipHero.

Single-Item Batch (SIB) Picking with the Mobile Interface

SIB picking uses a single shared tote for all orders in the batch. Because all items go into one tote, you do not need to re-scan the tote for each unit of the same SKU — the packer at the station separates orders after picking is complete.

  1. Select or scan the tote. Begin by scanning or selecting the shared tote for the batch.
  2. Scan the item. Scan the item to confirm. The app shows the tote the item belongs to.
  3. Place the item. Place the item into the tote. Options available: reset count, enter quantity manually, or place directly into the tote.
  4. Repeat for each item in the batch.

Reporting an Issue in SIB Picking

You can report an issue with a SKU using the Report Issue button. If you have already partially picked a SKU, you must resolve the partial pick first:

  • Option 1: Tap Put in tote to move the already-picked quantity to the tote, then select Report Issue for the remaining amount.
  • Option 2: Tap Reset count to clear the partial pick, then report an issue for the full quantity.
