As a 3PL, you manage orders, shipping options, and automation rules for each of your customers. Most of this work happens inside the individual customer account, which you open by switching into it from your 3PL account. Admin 3PL users can switch into every customer account. Non-admin 3PL users can only switch into the customer accounts assigned to them.
Before You Begin
- Required user role permission: To change which customers another 3PL user can switch into, you need user management permissions in the 3PL account.
- Account type: The Customers setting is available for 3PL account users only. It does not appear for users created inside a 3PL client's account.
Note for 3PLs: Automation Rules are an exception. You can create, edit, duplicate, and bulk manage client Automation Rules from your 3PL account without switching customer accounts. See Overview: Managing Automation Rules as a 3PL in ShipHero.
To create 3PL users, see How to Create and Manage Users in ShipHero. For every other setting on a user's profile, see ShipHero User Settings Reference.

What to Manage in a 3PL Customer Account
These features and settings are managed from inside the customer account:
- Automation Rules (also manageable from the 3PL account)
- Manual order creation
- Orders created with a CSV upload
- Connecting stores and managing store settings
- Returns settings
- Warehouse Profiles
- Creating and managing customer account users and permissions
How to Switch Between 3PL Client Accounts
The customer account dropdown in the top navigation bar lets a 3PL user switch into any customer account they have access to.
- Log in to your 3PL account.
- Select the customer account dropdown in the top navigation bar.
- Select the customer. The page reloads inside that customer's account.
The dropdown lists only the customer accounts the user has access to. When a non-admin 3PL user has no customers assigned, the dropdown does not appear.
How to Give a 3PL User Access to Customer Accounts
The Customers setting on a 3PL user's profile controls which customer accounts that user can switch into. Admin 3PL users have access to every customer account by default, so the setting applies to non-admin 3PL users. Assign customers one user at a time, or add customers to several users at once.
Assign Customers to One 3PL User
- Go to the Users & Roles page and select the name of the user you want to edit.
- Go to the Customers section of the user's profile.
- Check each customer this user should be able to switch into. Clear the checkbox for any customer they should no longer access.
- Save the user.
Add Customers to Multiple 3PL Users at Once
The Assign Customers bulk action on the Users & Roles page adds one or more customers to several 3PL users in a single step. Use it when you onboard a new 3PL client and several team members need access to that client's account.
Bulk Customer Assignment Only Adds Customers
Adding customers in bulk keeps every customer each user already has. It does not replace or remove existing customer assignments. To remove a customer from a user, edit that user's Customers section individually.
- Go to the Users & Roles page and check each user you want to update.
- Select Assign customers.
- Select the customer or customers to add.
- Select Save to add the customers to all selected users.
The new customers appear in the customer account dropdown for each selected user.
