Order tags serve as the foundation of your fulfillment workflow. By categorizing orders based on unique attributes—such as customer loyalty status, product fragility, or marketing source—you create a highly responsive warehouse environment. Order tags also act as searchable categories that allow you to segment warehouse performance and inventory velocity with accurate data analysis.

Operational Efficiency
Utilizing tags removes the need for manual order inspection. Instead of reviewing every order individually, your team can use the Manage Orders page to filter by specific tags, ensuring the right orders reach the right pickers at the right time.
| Workflow Action | Benefit of Using Tags |
|---|---|
| Order Filtering | Reduces manual search time on the Manage Orders page. |
| Picker Assignment | Assigns specific pickers to specialized order types (e.g., Fragile). |
How to Apply Order Tags
ShipHero offers several methods to apply tags. Choose the method that best fits your operational volume.
Method 1: Single Order (Manual)
- Open the Order Details page.
- Scroll to the Order Tag section.
- Type the tag name and press Enter.
- Click Save Tags.
Method 2: Automation Rules
- Navigate to Orders > Automation Rules and click Create New Rule.
- Define the Trigger (e.g., Order Total $100).
- Set the Action to Set Order Tag and enter the tag name.
- Click Create.
Automation Rules only apply to new orders by default. For Shopify integrations, you can re-run rules upon tag import.
Method 3: Bulk Actions
- Go to Orders > Manage Orders.
- Select the checkboxes for the orders you wish to update.
- Click Bulk Edit.
- Enter the Order Tag and select Update.
Importing Order Tags from Shopify
If you use Shopify, tags applied in the Shopify admin sync automatically to ShipHero. Manage these tags at the source via the Shopify Order Admin.
Optimizing Picking with Order Tags
You can assign specific orders to pickers based on tags. This applies to Single-Item Batches and Multi-Item Batches.
Orders must match both the User Tag Filter AND the User Order Status setting to appear in a batch.
How to Assign a Tag Filter to a User
- Go to Users & Roles.
- Select the specific user.
- In App Settings, enter the tag in the Multi/Single Item Batch Order Tag Filter field.
- Click Save.
Reporting and Analytical Benefits
Integrating Order Tags unlocks advanced reporting. By tagging orders at entry, you create a searchable history that tracks how different order types move through your facility.
Pro Tip
Use consistent naming conventions across all platforms to ensure reports remain unified.
