Pick Priority in ShipHero controls the order in which pickers are directed to locations when fulfilling an order. By default, the ShipHero mobile app routes pickers to the location with the least inventory available for each item. Use Pick Priority to override this default and route pickers to specific locations first.
Pick Priority uses an incremental scale — the lower the number, the higher the priority. For example, priority 0 outranks priority 1, and priority 1 outranks priority 2. When a picker starts a batch, ShipHero directs them to the highest-priority (lowest-numbered) location for each item first. There is no upper limit on pick priority values.
For guidance on how pickers experience location routing in the mobile app, see Understanding Pick Routing and Location Priorities for Pickers.
Things to Consider
- By default, locations are created with a Pick Priority of 1 if not specified.
- Pick Priority does not apply to non-pickable bins.
- Lots and expiration settings override Pick Priority.
- Using negative numbers to assign a priority higher than 0 is supported but not recommended.
- Tie-breaker rule: If a single SKU has inventory in multiple locations with the same Pick Priority number, ShipHero directs the picker to the location with the lowest inventory quantity of that SKU.
How to Set Pick Priority on a Location
You can set Pick Priority when creating a location or edit it on an existing location.
- Go to Inventory > Locations.
- Search for the location you want to update.
- Click the number in the Pick Priority column for that location.
- Enter your priority number and press Enter to save.
