The Pick Priority feature in ShipHero allows you to control the order in which pickers are directed to locations in your warehouse when fulfilling an order. By default, the ShipHero mobile application directs pickers to the pickable location with the least amount of inventory available for an item to complete an order. You can use Pick Priority to override this default behavior and guide your pickers to specific locations first.
How does Pick Priority work? Pick Priority is based on an incremental scale, where the lower the number, the higher the priority. For example, 0 has a priority over 1, 1 takes priority over 2, and so on. When a picker starts a batch on the mobile device, ShipHero will direct them to the location with the highest priority (lowest number) first for the item they need to pick. There is no limit to the pick priority that can be assigned.
Things to Consider
- By default, locations are created with a pick priority of 1 if not specified.
- Pick Priority does NOT apply to Non-Pickable bins.
- Lots and expiration settings override the pick priority.
- Using negative numbers to set a location to a higher priority than 0 is supported but not recommended.
- Tie-breaker Rule: If a single SKU has inventory in multiple locations that share the same Pick Priority number (i.e., two locations both set to priority '1'), the mobile app will then direct the picker to the location that has the lowest inventory quantity of that specific SKU.
How to Edit Pick Priority on a Location
You can set the Pick Priority of a location while creating a location or edit it for an existing location. In this section, we are going to cover how to edit the pick priority for existing locations.
- Go to the Inventory > Locations page.
- Use the Search field to find the specific location you want to prioritize.
- Click on the number in the Pick Priority column for that location.
- Input your desired priority number and press the ENTER key on your keyboard to save the change.
Example of Pick Priority in Action
The following example order contains two items that have multiple locations linked.
I prioritized this location to direct me when picking, even though there are other locations with less quantity in them, but they all have 1 in Pick Priority.
Upon starting MIB, it begins with directions to the location marked priority 0.
