A billing profile in 3PL Billing Alpha is a group of templates you apply to a client in one step. Build a profile once (for example, every wholesale rate you charge) and apply it to each new client. ShipHero turns each template in the profile into a rate on that client.
Before You Begin
- Account access: 3PL Billing Alpha is available to a limited group of accounts. Contact ShipHero Support to ask about joining the alpha group.
- Templates: Billing profiles are built from existing templates, so create your templates first using How to Create and Assign Billing Templates in 3PL Billing Alpha.
- Unique rate names: A client can't have two rates with the same rate name, so ShipHero won't apply a profile until every rate name is unique for that client.

How Billing Profiles Work in 3PL Billing Alpha
When you apply a billing profile, ShipHero creates one rate on the client for each template in the profile. You can apply a profile to as many clients as you need, and to the same client more than once. Rates created from a profile are independent:
- Editing a template updates it in every profile that contains it, but doesn't change rates already created from it.
- Editing a client's rate changes only that client's rate.
- Removing a template from a profile, or deleting a profile, doesn't delete the template or any rates already created.
How to Create a Billing Profile in 3PL Billing Alpha
- Go to Billing (Alpha) > Billing profiles and select Create billing profile.
- Enter a Billing profile name and, optionally, a Profile description to tell similar profiles apart.
- In Templates to include, select each template you want. Selected templates appear below the search box. Select the X on one to remove it.
- Select Create billing profile. The profile appears on the Billing profiles page with its description under the name.
How to Edit a Billing Profile in 3PL Billing Alpha
You can change a billing profile's name, description, and templates at any time. Changes don't affect rates already created on clients.
Edit a Billing Profile's Name, Description, or Templates
- On the Billing profiles page, hover over the profile and select the Edit (pencil) icon.
- Make your changes and select Save.
Add or Remove Templates on a Billing Profile's Page
- On the Billing profiles page, select the profile name to open its page.
- To add templates, select Add templates, select the templates, and select Add templates again. Templates already in the profile appear checked and grayed out.
- To remove a template, hover over it, select the trash icon, and select Delete.
How to Apply a Billing Profile to a Client in 3PL Billing Alpha
- On the Billing profiles page, hover over the profile and select the Apply to client (plus) icon. You can also select Apply to client on the profile's page.
- Select the client and the Warehouse, or keep All Warehouses.
- Select each template to review it. You can change the rate name, charge label, charge category, GL code, and rate amount for this client. The transaction type, rate type, billing units, and billing metrics come from the template.
- Check each rate name. ShipHero shows "Rate name is available" or "A rate with this name already exists for this client." Apply profile stays unavailable until every name is unique.
- Select Apply profile. The new rates appear on the client's Rates list in Billing (Alpha) > Client management.
How to Delete a Billing Profile in 3PL Billing Alpha
- On the Billing profiles page, hover over the profile and select the trash icon.
- Select Delete to confirm.
Deleting a billing profile can't be undone
To use the same group of templates again, create the profile again. The templates and any rates already created on clients aren't affected.
Troubleshooting Billing Profiles in 3PL Billing Alpha
Error: "A rate with this name already exists for this client."
Cause: A template in the billing profile has the same rate name as a rate the client already has. This usually happens when you apply the same profile to a client a second time.
Fix: Select the template with the error and enter a different Rate name. If the client doesn't need a second copy of that rate, apply a different profile instead. Apply profile becomes available once every rate name is unique.
