How to Assign a Staging Location to a Wholesale Order

Before your warehouse team can begin picking a wholesale order, a staging location must be assigned. A staging location is the designated area in your warehouse where picked inventory is moved and consolidated before it is packed and shipped. This article covers the rules for staging locations and walks through how to select and create one from the ShipHero desktop.

Before you begin: You must have an existing wholesale order in ShipHero before you can assign a staging location.

Staging Location Rules

A staging location can only be assigned to one wholesale order at a time and must meet the following conditions before it can be selected.

  • Zero Inventory Assigned: A staging location must be empty before assigning it to a new wholesale order.
  • One per Wholesale Order: Only one staging location can be assigned per wholesale order.
  • Can be reused. Once the order is marked Complete, the staging location will be emptied of the inventory that is packed and will be available to assign to a new wholesale order.

How to Select a Staging Location on a Wholesale Order

Follow these steps to assign an available staging location to your wholesale order from the ShipHero desktop. Staging locations must exist in your inventory settings before they can be assigned — if you have not created one yet, see How to Create a Staging Location below.

  1. Open the wholesale order and click the Select Staging button from the Shipping tab.
  2. Select an available Staging Location from the list and hit Save.

How to Create a Staging Location

Staging locations are created and managed from the Inventory > Locations page in ShipHero. When the staging location setting is enabled, the location is automatically configured as a transfer location — meaning it is sellable and non-pickable — and will appear as an option when assigning a staging location to a wholesale order.

  1. Go to the Inventory > Locations page.
  2. Click the Add a location button.
  3. Name your Staging location.
  4. Check the box next to the Is this a staging location? setting. This automatically sets the location as a transfer location that is sellable, and non-pickable.
  5. Select Save.
