FedEx is replacing its legacy XML API with a REST API. Existing FedEx connections in ShipHero must be upgraded through a multi-factor authentication (MFA) flow by August 31, 2026. Complete the upgrade for every warehouse and Warehouse Profile connection that uses the FedEx account. If you are connecting FedEx for the first time, see Connecting Your FedEx Account to ShipHero.
Action Required for Existing FedEx Connections
FedEx ends support for legacy XML connections on August 31, 2026. If a legacy connection remains, a Cheapest workflow can show a no-rates error because ShipHero cannot retrieve FedEx rates from that connection. Upgrade every existing FedEx connection to the REST API before the deadline.

Upgrading Existing FedEx Connections
FedEx legacy XML connections must be upgraded to the REST API by August 31, 2026. Upgrade each warehouse and Warehouse Profile connection that uses the FedEx account.
If ShipHero shows an address error during the upgrade, contact FedEx Support to verify the address saved on your account.
Step-by-Step FedEx Upgrade Process
-
Go to Shipping > Carriers and select Upgrade MFA next to the FedEx connection.
-
In the pop-up window, enter the required information marked with an asterisk and select your preferred MFA Method.
Required information:
- FedEx customer name
- Country code
- State or province code
- City
- Postal code
- Address line 1
To find the required information, log in to your FedEx account and open the contact information page.
- In the pop-up window, accept the FedEx EULA terms and conditions.
- In the pop-up window, select Upgrade. The MFA method you selected determines the remaining steps.
FedEx MFA Methods Explained
FedEx provides three MFA methods when you upgrade a FedEx connection in ShipHero:
FedEx PIN Validation
When you select PIN Validation, choose how to receive the PIN and enter it in ShipHero. Then select Upgrade/Connect.
| Choose a delivery method | Enter the PIN |
|---|---|
- Email: FedEx sends the PIN to the email address registered in the FedEx dashboard.
- SMS: FedEx sends the PIN to the phone number registered in the FedEx dashboard.
- Call: FedEx calls the phone number registered in the FedEx dashboard.
PIN Validation Limit
FedEx limits unsuccessful PIN validation attempts. After too many unsuccessful attempts, FedEx locks the account for 24 hours.
FedEx Invoice Validation
When you select Invoice Validation, enter information from a recent FedEx invoice. The invoice must be no more than 60 days old. Then select Upgrade/Connect.
Required information:
- Invoice number
- Invoice currency
- Invoice amount
- Invoice date in YYYY-MM-DD format
FedEx Tech Support Call
When you select Tech Support Call, call FedEx Tech Support at +1 877-339-2774. Ask FedEx to clear the account so you can skip the MFA validation methods.
After FedEx clears the account, repeat the address validation step. Select Tech Support Call as the MFA Method, then select Upgrade/Connect. The connection continues automatically.

Troubleshooting: Legacy FedEx Connection Errors in Cheapest Workflows
A FedEx connection that still uses legacy XML credentials returns no rates. Cheapest shipping methods treat a carrier with no rates as unavailable, so they previously moved on to the next carrier with no warning. An order could ship on a more expensive carrier with nothing to indicate FedEx had dropped out.
ShipHero now stops the Cheapest workflow and returns an error instead. A red banner appears at the top of the page: Error printing. Please check your printer settings and try again.
Selecting Details opens the Error details window with the full message:
Error: Carrier Errors for Cheapest. cheapest: "Cheapest aborted due to key carrier failure: fedex. You are attempting to quote with a legacy FedEx connection. Please upgrade your connection using the Carrier Settings page to proceed."
To resolve the error:
- Go to Shipping > Carriers and look for an Upgrade MFA button next to any FedEx connection.
- Complete the Step-by-Step FedEx Upgrade Process for that connection.
- Repeat for every warehouse and Warehouse Profile that has its own FedEx connection. A single missed connection keeps returning the error for orders assigned to that warehouse or profile.
- Return to the order and select Calculate shipping rates. FedEx rates return once the connection uses REST credentials.
If the error continues after you upgrade every FedEx connection, contact the ShipHero Support Team with the order number and the warehouse the order ships from.
