Connecting Your FedEx Account to ShipHero

This article covers the steps and settings required to connect your FedEx account to ShipHero, including connection fields, available settings, and the letterhead requirement for international shipments.

Before You Begin

Connecting FedEx to ShipHero involves a two-part validation process: address validation and MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication). All address information entered during the connection process must match the information on file in your FedEx dashboard exactly. You will also need your FedEx Account Number and FedEx Meter Number before starting.

FedEx Meter Number

FedEx has updated its process and customers can no longer self-generate meter numbers. Follow the guidance below based on your situation:

  • If you have a meter number: Enter it directly into the connection form.
  • If you are setting up a new account: Contact ShipHero Support to have a meter number generated for you.
  • If you have an existing account but no meter number: Contact your FedEx account representative. This is typically required when connecting an existing account to a new profile.

Available FedEx Settings After Connecting

Setting Description
Cut-Off Time Sets the shipping date on the label. Labels generated after this time print with the following day's date. Set to align with your FedEx pickup time.
Label Date Allows labels to be produced in advance with a future ship date for FedEx Express shipments. See How to Ship with FedEx Express and Set a Future Label Ship Date.
Hub ID Required for FedEx Ground Economy. The number corresponding to the nearest FedEx Ground Economy processing location. Contact your FedEx representative to confirm your Hub ID.
Enable FedEx One Rate Enables FedEx One Rate shipping methods. Must be enabled by your FedEx account representative before activating in ShipHero. See How to Enable FedEx One Rate.
Duty Payment Account (DDP) — the shipper is charged duties. Recipient (DDU) — the recipient pays duties upon delivery.
Disable Quoting Excludes this account from rate shopping and cheapest carrier calculations.
Backup Phone Number Used when an order has no recipient phone number, preventing a FedEx API error.
Sync TSCA Shipments When enabled, ShipHero generates and electronically submits TSCA documentation to FedEx for shipments containing toxic substances.

FedEx Letterhead Requirement

The FedEx letterhead is an image uploaded to FedEx and used on commercial invoices for international shipments. Enabling it is a two-step process:

  1. Upload your signature and letterhead to your FedEx account on the FedEx website.
  2. Contact ShipHero Support to enable the letterhead setting for your connected FedEx account.

The letterhead setting must be enabled separately for each profile the FedEx account is connected to in ShipHero that will be used for international shipments.

Important Reminders when Connecting a Carrier Account

  • Using Custom Profiles: Custom profiles allow you to connect the same carrier account multiple times with unique settings, such as specific Incoterms or 3rd Party Billing. For these settings to apply, the order must be assigned to that specific profile. If the assigned profile lacks a connected carrier, ShipHero will automatically use the carrier account connected the warehouse’s default profile for the selected shipping method. This ensures your specialized billing and shipping terms are applied correctly to every label. Visit the following article for more information on How to Use Warehouse Profiles.
  • Multi-Warehouse Accounts: To generate labels from multiple warehouses, you must connect your carrier account to each individual location in ShipHero to avoid shipping errors or billing discrepancies. Please consult your carrier to determine if a single account number supports multiple origins or if unique accounts are required for each site. This is especially critical for international locations, as carrier operations vary by country.
  • Note for 3PLs: When connecting a new carrier account to ShipHero, double check your 3PL Clients' Settings to ensure you are connecting the carrier account to the correct ShipHero account; if Use Customer's Shipping Accounts is enabled the carrier account must be connected at the child account level, if Use Customer's Shipping Account is not enabled, the carrier account needs to be enabled at the 3PL level. More information about Managing 3PL Client Settings can be found here.
