The LPN receiving flow in ShipHero assigns scanned inventory to LPNs — license plate numbers that identify individual cartons, boxes, or pallets. LPNs stay linked to items throughout putaway and storage, making inventory traceable at the container level.
Before You Begin
LPNs and Mobile Receiving must be enabled on your account. Contact ShipHero support to enable these features. You must also have an inbound shipment created before starting — see How to Create an Inbound Shipment in ShipHero Mobile.
For an overview of all mobile receiving options, see Overview: Mobile Inbound Receiving in ShipHero.

Enable LPN Receiving in ShipHero
To enable Receive to LPN: Open the Inbound Settings page, check the option Receive to LPN in the Inbound workflow section and click Save.
To receive multiple SKUs to a single LPN, check the option Allow mixing SKUs in the Receiving flexibility section.
Mobile Receiving Best Practices
- Always finish one pallet at a time to keep LPNs organized.
- Use non-pickable locations for receiving.
- If multiple users are receiving at the same time, use My Work to view your own progress and All Inbound to view everyone's.
- Receive multiple POs on the same inbound. For 3PL accounts, all selected POs must belong to the same client.
- Pre-print LPNs so they are ready to scan and place on containers before receiving begins.
How to Receive Inventory to an LPN in ShipHero
On the inbound screen you will see the PO number, client name, and expected quantity versus quantity received so far.
- Scan the receiving location — this can be a staging area, receiving zone, or dock door.
- Confirm the location.
Important
- All items received will be assigned to LPNs tied to this location unless the location is updated.
- Update the location at any time by tapping the location indicator and scanning a new location.
- Scan the product barcode or tap the item manually. Each scan counts as one unit.
- Once all items for a container are scanned, scan the LPN (carton, box, or pallet). ShipHero assigns the scanned quantity to that LPN.
- Repeat the product and LPN scans until all items are received.
- Review the receiving summary.
- Tap Mark as Complete.
- Confirm the closure.

LPN Receiving Tools
ShipHero includes several tools to speed up LPN receiving for common scenarios.
Receiving Summary View
Tap Receiving Summary during receiving to verify the following details for each LPN:
- SKU
- Quantity
- LPN number
- Location
Duplicate LPNs (Same SKU, Multiple Boxes or Pallets)
Use this tool when receiving the same SKU across multiple boxes or pallets of equal quantity — it copies the SKU and quantity to a new LPN without re-scanning items.
- Open the Received Summary.
- Tap Duplicate. ShipHero copies the SKU and quantity.
- Scan a new LPN for the next box or pallet.
Example: For 6 boxes of 5 units each — scan once, tap Duplicate, then scan the remaining 5 new LPNs.

Palletize Cartons (Nesting LPNs)
Use this tool to nest individual carton LPNs under a pallet LPN once cartons are ready to be palletized.
- Open the Received Summary and scan a pallet LPN.
- ShipHero nests all loose cartons under that pallet and updates the Received Summary accordingly.

Receiving Pre-Built Pallets
Use this flow when receiving a pallet that is already packed — scan one SKU, enter the full quantity, then assign the whole pallet to a single LPN.
- Scan one of the SKUs on the pallet.
- Enter the full quantity (for example, 50 units).
- Scan the pallet LPN. The pallet is received and ready for putaway.

Editing and Moving Cartons
Update a carton's quantity or move it to a different pallet from the Receiving Summary.
Update a Carton's Quantity
- Open the Receiving Summary and tap Edit.
- Scan the carton LPN.
- Update the quantity and tap Save.

Move a Carton to a New Pallet LPN
Removing a carton from a pallet does not un-receive it — it detaches the carton from the pallet so it can be reassigned.
- Open the Receiving Summary and tap Edit.
- Scan the pallet LPN you need to edit.
- Tap the X on the carton to unnest it. The carton moves back to the Loose Cartons list.
- Scan a new pallet LPN to repalletize the carton.
